Is the endian problem when encoding video for iPodLinux with mencoder for PPC a known issue and would transcoding on an x86 machine solve the colour shift problem? When is a fix for the PPC version expected? Thanks in advance, Jim (a total amateur, so don't be too technical with me) |

On first glance, it doesn't appear that this will be too difficult to implement, but I was hoping for suggestions regarding the external API to expose. I was thinking of supporting standard things like Play, Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward, Stop, etc. I've been using MPlayer almost exclusively for about a year now and it seems quite stable and robust to me. I am wondering what areas of improvement are being focused on for the next major release? The major issue that I see is probably performance as the audio and video often get out of sync anytime my machine gets bogged down for a moment and does not seem to recover. Cheers! I'm wanting to write a web browser (webkit) plugin for mplayer for os x, but I'm having issues compiling all the sources under Xcode so I can do some real (cocoa) development. I keep getting weird errors about NULL not being defined, malloc not being explicitly declared (even though stdlib is included), etc. Does anyone already have a zip of the mplayer sources + xcode project file that works that I might be able to use? Thanks, Aaron |

Hey, It would be great if the next version could be statically compiled with bidi support. I was able to get mplayer to the point where it shows Hebrew subtitles with hebrew font, but without bidi support the text is inverted and it's quite useless... Regards, ERan |

Hello, Since I was tired of googling every time I needed the subtitles syncro keys (FYI it's z and x - not easy to remember because they are note side by side on my French keyboard!) I created a small HTML help file describing all keyboard shortcuts I could find. It's in French, but I don't think translating it would be a problem. This file can integrate in Apple Help system and open when you pick the Help menu item of the GUI. For this, I did the following: - added this in the Info.plist <key>CFBundleHelpBookFolder</key> <string>MPlayer Help</string> - added this in Resources/French.lproj/InfoPlist.strings CFBundleHelpBookName = "Aide de MPlayer OS X"; - created a folder named MPlayer Help in Resources/French.lproj and put the HTML file in it. I never developed anything on Mac, so I don't know if this is exactly right, but at least it works :-) Same thing with the HTML file: it probably deserves some improvement. I just found it helpful, so I thought it might help other people. And if you can integrate this in the next release, it would prevent me from doing this again next time :-) Thanks, and keep up the good work! Samuel |

Dear MPlayer OS X developers, I wrote some guidelines that should help FOSS projects getting more lively and lowering the barrier for new developers to join. You can find them in form of a small manual here http://projects.mi.fu-berlin.de/w/bin/view/SE/ThesisFOSSIMMediationManual. These ideas are the result of work for my bachelor thesis and have been used successfully at the GNU Classpath project. If the topic is of interest to you, I would be happy to receive criticism and comments concerning the manual or the general idea. For further discussion I have set up a mailing-list (use http://lists.spline.inf.fu-berlin.de/mailman/listinfo/mediation_manual to subscribe or med...@li... to post unsubscribed). Please send your feedback to this list but if you have reasons to contact me directly then just reply to this mail. In case you answer to your project's mailing list please CC me. Best regards Robert Schuster |

hi, I have patchs for mplayerOSX. It now runs on GNUstep/Linux ( http://www.gnustep.org ) with minor preprocessor stuff (#ifdef __COCOA__ ) ( not test on GNUstep/Windows) I used __COCOA__ ( instead of __APPLE__ ) because of Darwinx86 and GNUstep on OSX ( with XFree ) So you wil have to modify you xcode project ( to add conditional ) Do you prefer a whole tarball, a big patch or small a patch by file ? Cheers Fabien |

Hi, Someone just pointed out, that there are no sources of MPlayer or patches available from the MPlayerOSX page. Which would be strictly speaking a violation of the GPL. But as i guess that this is not your intention, may i ask you to put these online or even better send them to us so we can incooperate them into the main code tree. Thanks and a happy new year Attila Kinali |

Hello all, I used "cvs -z3 -d:pserver:ano...@cv...:/cvsroot/mplayerosx co mplayer" and got the OSX Mplayer source. When I compile with the latest XCode on my up-to-date Panther, the binary reports version 2.0b9 in the About box. I get the following compiling errors: PlayerCtrllr.m:613: passing arg 1 of `playItem:' from incompatible pointer type PlayerCtrllr.m:675: passing arg 1 of `playItem:' from incompatible pointer type PlayerCtrllr.m:701: passing arg 1 of `playItem:' from incompatible pointer type PlayerCtrllr.m:718: class `NSMutableDictionary' does not implement the `NSMenuItem' protocol PlayerCtrllr.m:718: class `NSMutableDictionary' does not implement the `NSMenuItem' protocol The app runs, but won't launch video files. 2004-12-08 19:17:25.205 MPlayer OS X 2[7946] launch path not accessible I can't add files by drag and drop or by File => Add to Playlist Any tips on fixing this, or getting a version that compiles, would be much appreciated. -Jam |

I filed a bug report =20 (probably at the wrong place) at: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?=20 func=3Ddetail&aid=3D1021355&group_id=3D62947&atid=3D502356 It read: ------ Hello, I recently downloaded MPlayer OS X 2 8r2. Audio from any movie files will not play over my M-Audio Revolution 7.1 sound card. I have tried different settings for -ao, with no avail. If I go to the sound countrol panel, I can choose between my internal speaker (Built-in audio) or my "Revolution Analog 7.1 Out". My other applications, (Finder, iTunes, Quicktime) all play through my sound card just fine. In addition, Mplayer OS X 2b7 works through the sound card. If I change my sound to the internal speaker, everything works fine, but sound quality doesn't quite compare :) I'm running 10.3.4 on a 1.6 GHz single procecssor G5 (1 GB ram). There are some kernel extentions installed so the system can use the sound card: MAudioRevolutionJaguarG5.kext, etc... I built mplayer from source from the nightly snapshot, but I still had the same problem. --------- When playing audio through my soundcard on the new version of mplayer, =20= the error I see is: AO: [macosx] 44100Hz 8ch Floating Point (4 bps) Building audio filter chain for 48000Hz/2ch/16bit -> =20 44100Hz/8ch/32bit... [channels] The number of output channels must be between 1 and 6. =20 Current value is 8 Couldn't find matching filter / ao format! Back in the days of mplayer 2b7, I used to run it with -ao sdl, and =20 that worked great. Now when I try it: Could not open/initialize audio device -> no sound. Audio: no sound On the mplayer OS X page, it reads: =95 Mplayer is now compiled without sdl support =95 Primary vo output is -vo macosx (made by Nicolas Plourde) I think it would be great to have sdl support, since I need it to play =20= audio over my sound card. (anyway, both of us seem to have the problem with too many sound =20 channels, which is causing the problem) Thanks everyone, mplayer is a wonderful piece of software! Andy |

hey guys, thanks for such a great product. i've used mplayer a bit and have recommended it to all my friends. in the past i have had no serious issues with earlier version but recently, i've been trying out mplayer version 2.0b8 (not r2) on the Mac and i have had a consistent problem that comes up - every time a Divx or 3IVx file is played back using the software, the audio comes out high pitched and totally garbled in bursts - the video plays back fine, however. Troubleshooting/Testing: this behavior occurs starting at version 2.0b5 of the software going upwards, and does not affect earlier versions. here's what i've done to try to get around the problem - on most older Divx files (Ver 3 and ver 4) i am able to play them back perfectly using mplayer 2.0b4 down to 1.1. oddly enough version 2.0b5 upwards of your program seems to have no problems playing back Xvid movie files. it just seems that the rest of the other file types cause garbled audio. my system:Mac G4 500Mhz (sawtooth) 1Gig RAM, OS 10.3.5 *****Possible clue - looks like the audio driver was updated as of version 2.0b5. I am currently using a Tascam FW-1884 (like a Digi002) Firewire interface with multiple outs. looks like the audio out wants to see 2 channels available only for output and instead it returns 18 channels (the total number of outputs available on the Firewire unit). is there any way to tell it to use 2 channels like the older versions of the software do? Check out this clip from the console dump: 2.0b5 "AO: [macosx] 44100Hz 18ch Floating Point (4 bps) Building audio filter chain for 44100Hz/2ch/16bit -> 44100Hz/18ch/32bit... [channels] The number of output channels must be between 1 and 6. Current value is 18 Couldn't find matching filter / ao format!" 2.0b4 "AO: [sdl] 44100Hz 2ch Signed 16-bit (Big-Endian) (2 bps) Building audio filter chain for 44100Hz/2ch/16bit -> 44100Hz/2ch/16bit... Starting playback..." i guess it would be really nice to have the ability to switch between sdl and macosx since sdl plays back the audio fine. has anyone else had these garbled audio issues on newer versions of mplayer? whatever help you may be able to give would be greatly appreciated. best -- scott ol...@lm... |

Hello everyone, I was interested in playing around with the MPlayer OS X source code to try and add a feature or two. I ended up downloading the source via cvs with 'mplayerosx' for the module name without realizing it was version 2.0. Where can I get a copy of the 2.0b8r2 source code? I assume I just have to point cvs at a different module. I'd like to start trying to contribute to the project in any way I can. Thanks in advance. --Ian |
