Dear Case, Thanks for you email, feedback is always welcome, glad you found the the How To helpful. The mkisofs command on page 3 of the how to is :- mkisofs -pad -l -r -J -v -V "CD-Label" -b base/boot.img -c base/boot.cat -hide -rr \ -moved -o /mnt/hda1/morphing/NewIso.iso /mnt/hda1/morphing/tmp/iso/ If you include the \ the command is treated as one continous command. I could not include that whole command on one line, in the document, but if you include the \, exactly as writtern the command should work. When mounting a loopback filesystem, AFAIK, it can only be mounted as read-only. So the copying and new image making is needed. (I cc'ed this to the morphix-user mail list and somebody will shout if I'm wrong) Thanks, Brendan > > Brendan, > > Thanks for writing this document, it certainly made the process of > trying to make a custom liveCD a *little* easier. > > I wanted to point out a typo which was a little confusing for me at > because I started out with an older version of mkisofs (which doesnt > support the -pad option) so when mkisofs complained about -hide-rr > and -moved I figured it was still the wrong version .. but I suspect > that was supposed to be -hide-rr-moved (without a linebreak) > > Finally I was curious if you could tell me why it's necesary to mount > the iso on loopback, copy the files to make modifications then make > another iso with mkiso instead of making modifications in the mounted > iso image, then unmounting & burning that. Dear Open Source developer I am doing a research project on "Fun and Software Development" in which I kindly invite you to participate. You will find the online survey under http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/. The questionnaire consists of 53 questions and you will need about 15 minutes to complete it. With the FASD project (Fun and Software Development) we want to define the motivational significance of fun when software developers decide to engage in Open Source projects. What is special about our research project is that a similar survey is planned with software developers in commercial firms. This procedure allows the immediate comparison between the involved individuals and the conditions of production of these two development models. Thus we hope to obtain substantial new insights to the phenomenon of Open Source Development. With many thanks for your participation, Benno Luthiger PS: The results of the survey will be published under http://www.isu.unizh.ch/fuehrung/blprojects/FASD/. We have set up the mailing list fa...@we... for this study. Please see http://fasd.ethz.ch/qsf/mailinglist_en.html for registration to this mailing list. _______________________________________________________________________ Benno Luthiger Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich 8092 Zurich Mail: benno.luthiger(at)id.ethz.ch _______________________________________________________________________ |

Hi Kermit, When using tohd, all files are just copied over to the given harddisk partition. So all you need to do is a 'cp -a /path/to/iso/* /mnt/hda1/'. You don't have to format the partition as an iso to have fromhd work :) cheers, Alex Quoting Kermit Jones <mo...@fr...>: > I think this is the right list... > > I'd like to do a variation of the poor man's install. I think this is the right list... I'd like to do a variation of the poor man's install. However, the FAQ says you run "morphix tohd=hda1". That assumes you have a cd. I've been doing this intellibuild, but instead of burning each iso to test it, can I extract the iso to a hard drive of another computer and boot with the "morphix fromhd=hda1" ? If so, what is the command for properly extracting the iso or can I format the hdd as iso (which I've seen done to simulate virtual cdroms). Thanks, kermitjunior |

Have a look at the mini-module generator http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/morphix/How_to_Use_Mini_Module_Generator.pdf?download The is an option to save files within a minimodule to be copied to a specific location on the files system, eg. copy libvga.a to /usr/lib > One way could be to add these libraries in /cdrom/lib directory and then > compile programes as follows, > > gcc -L/cdrom/lib ....... Dear all, I have installed morphix latest stable in my hard disk with no problems and running great.. I installed locales in my system and works fine ... both locales + translations. Now i followed mainmorphing.pdf and chrooted to the extracted images and installed locales , translations and other things and burn back to CD and reboot from the CD this time i can type in my langaue and in terminal screen i do: export LC_ALL=ne_NP then gedit. the translations did't work. same thing works on hd install.... So, it wud be great help what is the differecnce between booting from live morphoix CD and using from hd-install morphix. Thanks Paras. |

Did that on four machines so far, not a single problem. -- Gabriel Wicke |
