I believe the version of livecd you are using does not use boot.img See the readme on the cd or:- http://www.morphix.org/manual/how_tos/docbook_html/ar01s07.html The great thing about make-iso is that it select the correct mkisofs command from the three different versions. Hope this helps, Brendan |

I have Morphix installed in my HD. I changed xinitrc but Gnome is still loaded instead of Fluxbox http://wiki.debian.org/xinitrc How can I change it ?. It would be an interesting thing include a window-manager selector for Morphix installed in the hard disk, so the user can select which window-manager /desktop envieronment use when X starts (or temporally stablish one by default). Hi Aquatix, In irc - whilst I was away, aquatix bmsleight: you're icewmgui works normally with X? aquatix in qemu it complains about not finding any screens aquatix but so does my lightgui derived aquamorph First spotted by jbrandligt http://morphix.org/index.php?option=3Dcom_simpleboard&Itemid=3D78&func=3Dvi= ew&id=3D383&catid=3D5 The file /etc/X11/xorg.conf should be a symbolic link to /etc/X11/XF86Confi= g-4 Making this symlink has resolved booting with qemu problems. My test machine still booted X, but I some machines/qemu may need this. I have been trying to upload for the past week a new version of IcewmGUI-0.5pre5 but ftp -> sourceforge is fun. Still trying. (Sourceforge please do not delete overnight uploads!) Morphing-Morphix does has the xorg.conf as a symbolic link to XF86Config-4, hence can boot from qemu. Hope this helps, Brendan |

The purpose of Morphing-Morphix is to provide a quick introduction to start Morphing and making your own LiveCD. Just boot the CD and start Morphing, no need to install tools, compile applications or switch operating systems. All that is required is some space on a connected hard drive. In fact Morphing-Morphix was made using Morphing-Morphix, which was made using Morphing-Morphix... the recursive LiveCD. The following Morphs can be completed from the LiveCD. * My First Morph - change the background * Morphing the Boot Menu * Morphing the Boot-up Process * Morphing the Home Directory * Auto-Launching Firefox * Morphing a MainModule * Auto-Building using mmaker * Testing an iso using Qemu All menu-driven, after you have used the interactive How To - a script is available containing all the commands used in the morphing session. In fact you can use this script to reproduce the exactly the same results. Manual entry for Morphing-Morphix. My user ID is: sunburnt I haven't logged in for awhile, now reports ID/PW wrong. Tried: forget password? won't work. Tried: New Account, says ID/PW already in use. Hi All, I'm new to Morphix and wonder if this is the correct group for this post. I want to try out the Morphix KDE live CD. The link for it is Morphix-KDE-pre1.iso I chose the three availabe US mirrors for the download and all of them gave me a file at size around 34M and the browser said it's complete without any error. It can not be correct! The link says it should be more than 600 M! Do I miss something here? How can I get the full download? Thanks, Shengli |

I am trying to run the Light GUI 0.5-pre4 on a e-machines T6000 with an AMD 64 3200. Go thruogh all of the start up and then gives me a black screen. Using the F2 verbose on one line I see bios failed to hand off. Is there a problem with running Morphix on an AMD64? Can anything be done? (mkisofs -r -J -b base/boot.img -c base/boot.cat -o my.iso morph_hd/) this command doesn't work for make a .iso, maybe this document es outdated or maybe is because im using MorphixBase-0.5-pre5.iso. 2. if i follow instruction of Section 2 : "Build a mainmod from scratch" explain how to make hardware auto-detection?? please someone can help me?? --=20 Bismark ...........................................................................= ......................... Responding to myself: The "criminal" is pump. Although there is no DHCP server, and although a static IP is defined, it insists on turning off eth0. Since it is running as a daemon, the fact that loadmod.sh is running AFTER morphix-start (the launcher of pump) doesn't help. So the only workarounds: 1. Add the flag "nodhcp" to the boot params (but this workaround requires booting it manually, which is not a real option usually). 2. Run "pump -k" before setting up eth0. If this is how pump works, then it sucks. It should not touch anything as long as no DHCP server responds to it. I wrote: > > [I was not sure if it should go to "devel" or to "user", so I posted to > both; Sorry if this is wrong...] > > Hi, > > I've always used Morphix (0.5pre5) with a running DHCPD in the LAN, and > its networking has worked perfectly. > > Yesterday I tried with no DHCP server. [I was not sure if it should go to "devel" or to "user", so I posted to both; Sorry if this is wrong...] Hi, I've always used Morphix (0.5pre5) with a running DHCPD in the LAN, and its networking has worked perfectly. Yesterday I tried with no DHCP server. When I did it manually, either by the "ifconfig" command, or by editing "/etc/network/interfaces" + running "/etc/init.d/networking restart", it worked perfectly. Then I tried to do it through a mini-module boot command (I don't know the exact terminology, but I'm talking about the commands that Morphix executes when it is loading a mini-module, which were defined by option #2 of minimod-gen). It didn't work by either of the ways (neither by the same ifconfig command which worked manually, nor by changing /etc/network/interfaces and restarting /etc/init.d/networking). I went on, checked the interface, and found out that everything was defined correctly, but "somebody" turned off eth0, so its definitions were correct, but it was not active. I checked further, by inserting logging into my script (the script that was called in the initialization of my mini-module. This script had 2 versions: one with ifconfig, and the other with modifications to /etc/network/interfaces + restarting of /etc/init.d/networking). I logged the output of basic networking commands such as "ping", to a temporary file. In both of the versions of the script, the output of the logging was perfect. So the clear conclusion is that "somebody" screws it up (or, actually, down...) after my script (i.e. my mini-module) is called. How can I find the "criminal" scipt? (or isn't it a script?) This used to be how I bypassed this grub error. It does however remove memtest and the graphix grub. Hope this helps Brendan |

I am installed in Virtual PC 7 on an iBook G4 connected to a DHCP network. On all VPC Linux OS's DNS does not work. resolv.conf needs to be manually edited. I use 4.2.2.2 DHCP does not work. Ping gets a: connect: Network is unreachable The graphical installer on lightgui both .5-pre4 and .4 will not save static setting. After clicking apply the network still does not work. If it is closed it later shows up as DHCP again. I edited /etc/network/interfaces to: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet static address 192.168.2.3 network 192.268.2.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.0.255 gateway 192.168.2.1 It now tries to ping but fails. I also tried deleting the broadcast and gateway lines, same result. Forcing DHCP: iface eth0 inet dhcp Produces the same result. |
