Hey Guys, I have been going through the same thing with Java lately... I found the best method was to use morphix-chroot and install the java .bin.. Brendan-- what are your thoughts on this? Would making a huge minimod (SDK) for example slow down the boot process? On a side note---- how do you guys recommend making a mini-mod out of a directory.. I have a lot of tools that I'm installing on my Distro and would like to test them from a minimod before chrooting into the main mod to install.. At the moment a java minimodule can be built yourself using this minimodule template:- http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/*checkout*/morphix/trunk/scripts-mini/MorphixMini-KioskAddins.xml?revision=2388&content-type=text%2Fplain You then can click the EULA while building the minimodule - which at the moment includes the re-distribution restriction - hence not Open Source at the moment. I am keeping an eye on the following:- http://www.sun.com/software/opensource/java/project_overview.jsp http://lists.debian.org/debian-user/2006/11/msg01634.html http://www.blackdown.org/java-linux/java2-status/index.html When java is actually released as GPL is will be easy to host a Java-MiniModule. At the moment, the licence means the best I can do is supply the template to build your own minimodule. Just my 2p worth, Brendan |

Hey Guys, I just build a new morphix distro using the latest base and custom xml template for my main mod. I'm getting the following errors after Xorg Crash: "failed to load module "bitmap" (module does not exist, 0) "failed to load module "pcidata" (module does not exist, 0) I read a few forums an I guess it's an issue with XORG? While I build this distro it may be best to start it from the command prompt instead of auto starting x? Anyone else do this? If so .. how? I'm going to try and rebuild my main mod again in hopes that the debian/xorg packages have been updated.. I believe I have ruled it down to that and it's not the mainmod.. Anyone else see this? Have any workarounds or fixes? I hope the packages have been updated/patched and I can just rebuild my mainmod. Hello list, i'm starting a new morphix derivated, the name is "astronomix". As you can think, it's a astronomy related distro, focused for=20 people that have a telescope and a clear blue sky to observe I'm starting to work on astronomix from only 2 days, so, ther's many thing to do before to have a release, but for now there are=20 configs for base-module from sid and configs for kernel 2.6.18.1 on svn. Yes,if this iso is made then it > should run on the Old machine but also on others with more hardware and > RAM :) If you are memory challenged, Apache is probably a bad choice for a web server.. A lightweight alternative would be Boa - Very low demands on memory and an easy, small config. Downside is it doesn't support PHP, but will do cgi. With PHP installed, the best option would be lighttpd - It is written in PHP and supports that as well as the usual gamut of cgi scripts. Configuration is a little more involved, but still considerably easier than Apache. Zathras.tuxcnc.org is running lighttpd and reports itself as Boa (I could be sick and configure it to respond with a M$ ident..). As Alex has suggested, submit a guest template and we can do an autobuild of the main-mod for you - I would recommend a mini-mod for any custom configuration files, and if the default ndiswrapper is too old, use the same mini-mod to replace it. Regards, Paul. |

NeroZero wrote: > Cool! What is an .XML? Did you take a look at both my HOWTO and those autobuild links? There you can find the answer to quite a bunch of your questions. The .xml file is basically the list of packages you want in the main module, so it's the template of the .iso [when you add the base module with the kernel etc]. You can have multiple of those mainmods on a cd, so that's why I said you may want to split it into "icewm for light machines" and "kde for heavy machines", for example. This really sounds great: http://www.us.debian.org/CD/jigdo-cd/ I mean I secelt the packages and if I cannot add any from my harddrive I had to open ip the .iso in order to add the correct versions of wpa and ndiswrapper! is that hard to do? BTW will this jido like Morphix add the right scripts that the CD .iso is having a rmadisk and all.. I guess so! Just a prudent thought! al...@de... wrote: > Hi NeroZero, > > See aquatix's howto [1] and the quick introduction to mmaker and > isomaker [2] on morphix.org. Where I should note that I already pointed to our official Manual in the emails I sent before NeroZero joined us here. NeroZero: the site is up again [check in your browser ;)], and yes, Debian installs can be made as small or fat as you want. Just don't install the cruft you don't need. It sounds like you want two mainmods: one for KDE ["heavy pc's"], and one with [for example] Fluxbox for your RAM-challenged boxes. This will create some overlap, as packages you want in both will be on the cdrom twice, but this way you can tweak both "installs" to the needs of that kind of machine. You'll probably not want mplayer and all codecs in the light mainmod, for example. So, I'd say: start out with both the kde and icewm .xml's you can find at http://www.morphix.org/autobuilds/mainmod/ and tweak those to your needs.
