-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi NeroZero, See aquatix's howto [1] and the quick introduction to mmaker and isomaker [2] on morphix.org. You might be interested in MorphingMorphix too. In short, the best way to get this done is by picking an existing XML template, modify it to include all the debian packages you want. The tough answer however is that you'll still have to do this yourself. Feel free to send an XML template for building your mainmodule (which would contain all your applications), there are guest builds every few days. You can also opt to run mmaker yourself, that's up to you. Do note that 16MB isn't a lot of RAM. If this is a livecd you only intend to use yourself: simply install Debian. cheers and good luck, Alex [1] http://aquariusoft.org/page/linux/livecd_howto [2] http://www.morphix.org/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=36&Itemid=82 NeroZero wrote: > Forgot: KPF add-on in KDE and Firestarter Firewall for easy port > controlling... > > sup...@ao... wrote: >> Yes, I was referred by gentle Michiel to this list here in order to >> state my request: I want to run some server stuff on my old 16MB RAM >> Laptop with copes with DamnSmallLinux fine with X11: Problem is that i >> cannot download modules in order to set up wpa_supplicant and >> ndiswrapper to tie it to my wireless lan system. >> I tried yesterday kantonix which had ndiswrapper and wpa but then I >> found out that obviously the newer versions do not work so well with my >> win98 driver and the netgear USB stick! Yes, I was referred by gentle Michiel to this list here in order to state my request: I want to run some server stuff on my old 16MB RAM Laptop with copes with DamnSmallLinux fine with X11: Problem is that i cannot download modules in order to set up wpa_supplicant and ndiswrapper to tie it to my wireless lan system. I tried yesterday kantonix which had ndiswrapper and wpa but then I found out that obviously the newer versions do not work so well with my win98 driver and the netgear USB stick! Suse also went recently from the latest ndiswrapper version to an old and more stable one.. So I would like to have an CD-Rom .iso image built based on morphix that boots from CDRom has all server services includes like pop3, imap, ssh openssl, a webserver (Apache or seamonkey) with php, sql (xampp) and kde and another smaller X11 windowsmanager. Yes,if this iso is made then it should run on the Old machine but also on others with more hardware and RAM :) maybe mplayer and the codecs, wget, We can even discuss here what should not be forgotten like alsaconf since with some distros my soundcard first starts working when I re-configure it in KDE :) I want also a nice background photo of course.. If nobody is willing to help me out here without me having to study all the documentation (time is money), then please refer me at least to a good tutorial, THX MAIN POINT: See below: these versions of wpa and ndiswrapper work in my system just fine, so please use them for the bulding process of my customized Linux version... (maybe add others in packed form only) And morphix is debian based, right! then a cool sources.list to begin with as well. (is there also automatix2 available?) Yes, all remote admin tools like ssh, vnc needed to be part as well, cups, and for the grub(lilo config I wish to have an option to boot the harddrive and to boot the USB (slax offers a little CDROM disc for OS systems who cannot boot the USB thru the bios settings) GPG and amarok streamripper, text browsers (elink, lynx) and firefox with java email clients mutt, pine, thunderbird, enigma plugin, postfix And I needed a function that saves settings on usb stick like email accoutns, bookmarks. Hi C=E9dric, I set the bug report to be pending to be closed. >Brendan, which base iso did you use for MM 0.3.1? Perhaps >this problem is solved when using the new autobuilt base and >the 2.6.17 kernel. I used a autobuild base from the begining of September. (I did not know that Morphix Base - 0.5pre6 - code name 'Amalthea' was going to be released). It has morphix kernel - 2.6.15 Not sure if this will be solved by new bases/kernel but may be worth a try. >This looks like a unionfs-issue, since the directories have >the correct owner on the cd, but as soon as they're >accessed >and copied to the ramdisk (and UNION) the ownership is >changed... Category: Morphing-Morphix Group: None Status: Open Resolution: None Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: C=E9dric Wider (c3lph1sh) Assigned to: Brendan Sleight (bmsleight) Summary: isomorph doesn't preserve ownership Initial Comment: Basically I did the following: isomorph --get main ./MyMoroh.iso /tmp/ morphix-chroot /tmp/morphing-morphix.mod ... apt-get install mysql5 ... When building the iso and testing it with qemu mysql doesn't start, complaining that it can't find /var/log/mysql/mysql-bin.index although it's there. To get mysql running one has to 'chown -R mysql:mysql /var/run/mysqld /var/lib/mysql /var/log/mysql' To make sure this doesn't has to be done every time the livecd starts up, I chrooted to the .mod and chowned these directories to mysql:mysql. But obviously somorph --add main /tmp/morphing-morphix.mod ./MyMorph.iso ./tmp.iso doesn't preserve the ownership of these folders. I am using MorphingMorphix 0.3.1 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Alex de Landgraaf (alextreme) Date: 2006-10-26 13:51 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D97489 Thanks for the info, from the looks of it unionfs is indeed the culprit. Brendan, which base iso did you use for MM 0.3.1? Perhaps this problem is solved when using the new autobuilt base and the 2.6.17 kernel. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: C=E9dric Wider (c3lph1sh) Date: 2006-10-26 09:09 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D1406567 Now that's an interesting one. After booting up, I executed a ls -lah on these directories (/var/lib/mysql, /var/run/mysqld, /var/log/mysql). All these directories belong to mysql:mysql Then I tried to start mysqld directly from command line (not using the script in /etc/init.d/). It fails complaining that mysql doesn't have the right to access the directory. I was wondering if the access rights have changed. And as a new ls -lah on the above listed directories shows, the ownership of /var/lib/mysql and /var/log/mysql have changed from mysql:mysql to root:root. This looks like a unionfs-issue, since the directories have the correct owner on the cd, but as soon as they're accessed and copied to the ramdisk (and UNION) the ownership is changed... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alex de Landgraaf (alextreme) Date: 2006-10-25 18:38 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D97489 Check what the permissions are when you boot this livecd. I suspect that the uid/gid of the directories mentioned aren't set to mysql's uid/gid because the mysql user/group don't exist on the host system. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: C=E9dric Wider (c3lph1sh) Date: 2006-10-25 17:45 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D1406567 You're right. The problem might more be inside morphix-chroot than isomorph. When looking at the source of morphix-chroot think the error must be in module-builder. I am not such a good bash-coder that I would understand the source of module-builder, but I don't see no copy-command after exiting the chroot-environment in morphix-chroot. bmsleight is right. I modded the main module using morphix-chroot and apt-get install mysql5. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alex de Landgraaf (alextreme) Date: 2006-10-25 17:26 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D97489 Might then want to check if morphix-chroot copies with -a. Using -r would lead to the problem mentioned. It could also have to do with unionfs though :) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Brendan Sleight (bmsleight) Date: 2006-10-25 17:12 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D804659 The module was made using morphix-chroot, apt-get install. (See bug report) Hence this may be a bug with morphix-chroot (or even MorphingMorphix), rather than isomorph. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alex de Landgraaf (alextreme) Date: 2006-10-25 16:40 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=3D97489 Hi Cedric, This appears to be more a problem with the mainmodule than with isomorph (isomorph merely adds the mainmodule to the iso, it doesn't have anything to do with the permissions within that mainmodule). How did you add mysql to your mainmodule? Did you do this manually, or via mmaker or some other way? Hi, I noticed the newest base module (basemod-2.6.17-2006-10-13_0600.iso) uses the nvidia kernel package. Is there any way to add the nvidia-glx package for that build to the morphix repository? It would make my life much easier. Some morphers, such as aquatix, are not gettign this problem. Some like me and others are getting this problem. http://www.morphix.org/index.php?option=com_joomlaboard&Itemid=90&func=view&id=790&catid=10 This may not be a long term problem, using sid is always a fun ride. As a short term fix I have made a minimodule to fix the bug. Minimodule template:- http://svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/morphix/trunk/scripts-mini/MorphixMini-XHack.xml?view=markup&pathrev=2430 Use morphmini to build and isomorph to add to your .iso:- morphmini ./MorphixMini-XHack.xml ./MorphixMini-XHack.mod isomorph --add mini ./MorphixMini-XHack.mod ./old.iso ./new.iso http://www.morphix.org/doc/how_tos/all_man_pages/html/ar01s12.html http://www.morphix.org/doc/how_tos/all_man_pages/html/ar01s06.html Hope this helps, Brendan |

Hello, that fact is somewhat detrimental for the kiosk idea. Adding this line to the <preX> section in MorphixMini-KioskSetting.xml prevents the root shells from being started (and also takes your chances of debugging when the kiosk is running): <command>rm /morphix/rc.m/S03console</command> Anyways, thanks for the LiveKiosk. Some more documentation would be nice. It should mention how the kiosk is implemented, ie. by using the matchbox window manager and the R-Kiosk plugin for firefox. Of course one can tell those things from looking at the files in the LiveKiosk cd. But if one ever wants to compare different kiosks, this information is vital before going deeper. Kindest regards, Michael |

Has anyone else got any ideas ? I am not good on X. Regards, Brendan |

Hi, I am still trying to get a Morphix morphed off of the Morphing-Morphix 0.3 ISO. I was able to produce an ISO, but when I try to test it in qemu, X doesn't come up and the system just shuts down. The errors when trying to start X look like this: --------------- Markers: (--) probed, (**) from config file, (==) default setting, (++) from command line, (!!) notice, (II) informational, (WW) warning, (EE) error, (NI) not implemented, (??) unknown. (==) Log file: "/var/log/Xorg.0.log", Time: Sun Dec 19 14:16:44 2004 (==) Using config file: "/etc/X11/xorg.conf" (EE) Failed to load module "bitmap" (module does not exist, 0) (EE) Failed to load module "pcidata" (module does not exist, 0) Fatal server error: Unable to load required base modules, Exiting... ------------- I see that there is a /usr/lib/xorg/modules/libpcidata.so and a /usr/lib/xorg/modules/fonts/libbitmap.so in the chroot from which the mainmodule is made, yet the problem persists. What am I doing wrong now? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks, Juergen |

Wow... I am shocked & dismayed! It's Monday and they still haven't fixed it! OK, so I'm not all that dismayed, being that it's not that hard to work around the issue. Thanks for pointing out that bug report - it saved me quite a few kills :) Much appreciated! --j |

I get the following error whenever I try to build a main module that contains X support: ------------- Exec: /usr/sbin/chroot /tmp/libmorphix-FkpcEZ /usr/bin/apt-get -qq -y --force-yes install xserver-xorg Extracting templates from packages: 100% xserver-xorg config warning: failed to infer keyboard layout from layout/lang '10 debian-installer/keymap doesn't exist--' xserver-xorg config warning: failed to infer keyboard layout from layout/lang '10 debian-installer/keymap doesn't exist--' Server symlink checksum doesn't exist. We need to make it xserver-xorg config warning: failed to infer keyboard layout from layout/lang '10 debian-installer/keymap doesn't exist--' xserver-xorg postinst warning: not updating /etc/X11/X; file has been customized ------------- It even shows up when going through the guided process running from Morphing-Morphix 0.3. After I see this message, dpkg hangs in the postconfiguration for xserver-xorg. I can kill the postconfig script (repeatedly) and the resulting ISO works just fine, as far as I can tell. But it is still a tiny bit inconvenient. It looks like it might be more of a Debian issue than genuinely Morphix related, but can you think of anything that I could do - short of just waiting for it to go away - to fix it? Thanks, Juergen |
