Version 1.1 of the Mondrian Open-Source OLAP Server was released on April 6th, 2005. A year in development since the first production release, it includes many, many improvements in functionality, performance, and stablility.

Seth Grimes writes in Intelligent Enterprise magazine, the January 2005:

First and foremost is Mondrian, an open-source OLAP server that accesses relational databases and supports Microsoft's Multidimensional Expressions (MDX) language, as well as the Java OLAP (JOLAP) and XML for Analysis application programming interfaces (APIs). A companion project, JPivot, provides a Java Server Page (JSP) tag library for tables and charts and acts as a Mondrian client. "The feedback I get from users is that they love how simple JPivot is to configurejust write a simple XML file or use the Eclipse plug-in," says lead developer Julian Hyde. "They love the JPivot user interface, and they find it fits seamlessly into their Web applications."... read more

Mondrian 1.0 is the culmination of over two years of development, and marks the first production-quality Open Source OLAP Server.

This release adds support for aggregations based upon distinct-counts, and enables JDBC connection-pooling; it also provides comprehensive support for XML for Analysis, and includes lots of bug-fixes.

JOLAP, the long-awaited J2EE API for access to OLAP servers (http://www.jcp.org/jsr/detail/69.jsp), is approaching its public review stage. Mondrian is ideally placed to become the first, and leading, JOLAP implementation, so let's go for it!

I've just patched the 0.2 release so mondrian can speak Oracle's dialect of SQL, and included the FoodMart dataset as an Oracle export file.
