When I install mingw32-pthreads-w32-dev version 2.9.1-1, using mingw-get, it errored out and says that the package does not exist. I run this on Windows XP. I would appreciate any help.

    I use the MinGW-Get GUI, default location --> C:\MinGW\libexec\mingw-get\guimain.exe
    anyway...

It shows me the current repo version is v2.10-pre-20160821-1
btw I have v2.9.1-1 installed myself...

here is the download links for that group and version i are looking for...
    https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw/files/MinGW/Base/pthreads-w32/pthreads-w32-2.9.1/

the files are still there as far as I can tell so idk why u can't install them... :/
idk if that will help u out at all...

I believe this may be a consequence of your continued use of WinXP, (no longer supported, by Microsoft), and SourceForge's recent move to SSL hosting.

FWIW, the files in question most definitely are present, and for me everything works fine with Win7, but when I fire up a WinXP virtual machine, nothing on SourceForge is accessible. This is not specific to mingw-get; internet explorer itself just gives me a "page cannot be displayed" redirect, (as it does for most of the internet).

All I can suggest is that you file a ticket with SourceForge themselves, and ask them to advise on how you might configure your internet settings, to make their downloads facility, (and indeed, their site in general), accessible to you, while you continue to be stuck with WinXP.

AFAICT, it has nothing to do with the version of Windows, in the past year or two I've run MinGW 32-bit perfectly well on Windows 2000.

IMO however, it does have everything to do with SSL. As far back as I can remember, SourceForge has always had long standing problems with it - for example, I could never connect using Filezilla and SFTP. But to return to the current problem, trying to get any file from the site using wget results in:

      --2017-03-28 15:45:10-- https://sourceforge.net/projects/mingw
      Resolving sourceforge.net... 216.34.181.60
      Connecting to sourceforge.net|216.34.181.60|:443... connected.
ERROR: cannot verify sourceforge.net's certificate, issued by /C=US/O=GeoTrust Inc./CN=GeoTrust SSL CA - G3': Unable to locally verify the issuer's authority. ERROR: certificate common name*.sourceforge.net' doesn't match requested host name sourceforge.net'. To connect to sourceforge.net insecurely, use--no-check-certificate'.

So it looks like SourceForge need to get their certs in order.

Confirmed, currently downloads are failing on W7 as well.

If you can upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate.. its the last decent version of Windows...
you may have to build a new PC if your current hardware is too old :(
you can find copies of Windows 7 on eBay like I did... just make sure u get 32 bit or 64 bit version depending on your hardware... if your new PC is using the newish parts then u probably want 8GB to 16GB of ram and 64bit version of Windows 7

If you can upgrade to Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate ...

That's hardly helpful ... the OP is using WinXP; upgrading to a later Windows version may not be an option. Besides, Windows is such a great operating system ... easy to use, and everything just works. (At least, that's what I'm told by those who won't even consider trying the vastly superior alternatives). If that's true, this should be easy to fix, no? Just don't ask me how, because I've never believed such hype, and haven't used Windows on my own host's, in over 15 years.

... its the last decent version of Windows

And, this is an oxymoron ... there is no such thing as a "decent" version of Windows; just varying degrees of dreadfulness.
