Indeed I have compiled FOX using the no-cost Microsoft compiler from their DDK before, but if I use VC for that I may have to end up using VC for all the rest of my code and so the number of gratuituous awkwardnesses that generates doe snot please me. I can even use Microssoft's compile running autoconf stuff under a cygwin shell but that feels such a crock. So my delight that mingw is almost working is in this case more on pragmatic grounds that it means my linux, solaris, macos and windows versions can all be built using one set of build scripts and basicall the same tool-chain.
