What are the equivalent settings in those other E-Mail clients you use? Normally my best guess is that you are using TLS/25 on a server that doesn't support it, and that the error is when LogicMail tries sending the "STARTTLS" command. Or that LogicMail is connecting in a different way than your other E-Mail clients, and its a way that your home WiFi router is screwing something up with. Of course I could easily be wrong. Worst case, the "Debugging" page on the website explains how you can make LogicMail record all network packets to the BlackBerry event log, from which we can see exactly where in the SMTP connection this error is coming from. -- ---------------------------- Derek Konigsberg dko...@lo... ---------------------------- |

Hi, I'm using version 2.0.0.258 on a Blackberry 8320 OS 4.5. When I set up SMTP as "Auto" and "WiFi if available" and send an email, I get an error saying "5.5.2 unrecognized command". If I uncheck WiFi it seems to work. Also, it would be real nice if I could mark an email as unread after I had read it. Most clients provide for this and I use that feature a good bit. Otherwise, what a super upgrade from version 1, keep up the good work! Mike // |

Hi, I'm using version 2.0.0.258 on a Blackberry 8320 OS 4.5. When I set up SMTP as "Auto" and "WiFi if available" and send an email, I get an error saying "5.5.2 unrecognized command". There were some issues with reopening a failed connection, which I fixed in 2.0.0.258. (I just linked that to the OTA page last night.) There are still some issues with keeping an IMAP connection open for a long period of time, since the IMAP IDLE handling currently does not work very well. (Issues with how I'm polling the socket, and what server replies I'm handling.) I'm actively working on fixing that, but its a lot of work, so it isn't finished yet. However, LogicMail 2.0 is not currently designed to stay running in the background for a long period of time. There are a lot of little things I need to do before that is a usable and reliable option. (Handling repeated disconnects/reconnects automatically, checking multiple folders periodically, better notifications, better memory management, etc.) I pushed some of the tasks to make that happen to 2.1. -Derek On 01/27/2011 02:26 AM, KwangErn Liew wrote: > For what it's worth, I only use LogicMail via WIFI connection, and I > don't have any issues when connecting to the IMAP server. > > But I notice that after awhile, the connection is dropped, and a quick > re-connect is inevitable. > > Does LogicMail keep the connection alive in the background when Internet > is available? > > > KwangErn > > > 2011/1/27 Hervé Philippe <her...@le... > <mailto:her...@le...>> > > Thank you Derek or your quick answer. > > You are right, battery-pull reset of the phone has exactly the same > effect. For what it's worth, I only use LogicMail via WIFI connection, and I don't have any issues when connecting to the IMAP server. But I notice that after awhile, the connection is dropped, and a quick re-connect is inevitable. Does LogicMail keep the connection alive in the background when Internet is available? Thank you Derek or your quick answer. You are right, battery-pull reset of the phone has exactly the same effect. It is a big progress because now, I can restart logicmail at any time without any download (I still have to confirm this point because just one experience). I didn't try "waiting a while" because the main advantage of LogicMail in my daily activities is "immediate response" ; I cannot "wait". Do you have any advice to fix this problem ? I really don't think uninstalling/reinstalling could possibly have any effect at all on this issue. Just doing a battery-pull reset of the phone will likely have the exact same effect. But I have run into issues in the past where I can't open non-BIS network connections on my device. (Its been a long time since I've seen this, and I'm guessing it was actually T-Mobile's fault.) Usually waiting a while or resetting the phone clears it up. The browser runs over the BIS network infrastructure, and uses a completely different (and more reliable) approach to get online than apps like LogicMail. -Derek On 01/26/2011 12:05 AM, Hervé Philippe wrote: > Hello, > > I just bought a Blackberry bold (9780 bought in China where I am > leaving) and I still don't know whether it's the best choice or the > worst mistake. > Hopefully, I discovered Logicmail and it is very convenient. > > I have a problem using Logicmail. Hello, I just bought a Blackberry bold (9780 bought in China where I am leaving) and I still don't know whether it's the best choice or the worst mistake. Hopefully, I discovered Logicmail and it is very convenient. I have a problem using Logicmail. When I download LogicMail (2.0.0.257 for BB6) it perfectly works : no remark, I greatly appreciate it, excellent IMAP synchronisation with my mail server. However, after a limited time, I got the message "unable to open connection". I check the configuration and all the connections (edge, Wifi). Besides, my browser still runs very well. Each time, I erase Logicmail, download it one more time, and then it works ... for a limited time. All suggestions to fix the problem are welcomed. Regards, |

Thanks. I apologize for the atrocious spelling the the previous message. I will try the beta. Please announce major bugs in the beta, if any, to help people avoid taking the fall by installing it. thanks, -- Peter --- On Fri, 1/21/11, Derek Konigsberg <dko...@lo...> wrote: For now, I strongly suggest installing the latest 2.0.0.x beta build instead of the trunk development snapshots. I've been doing a lot of work fixing minor issues on the 2.0 branch, and have not yet merged anything back to trunk. So in the short term, the 2.0 beta builds will have the latest code. I also remember fixing a context menu issue recently, which may have been the cause of your issue. (its not a feature I need to implement, but just a case where I probably wasn't including the field's default context menu items like I should have.) So give the latest 2.0 beta build a try, and see how it works. -Derek |

For now, I strongly suggest installing the latest 2.0.0.x beta build instead of the trunk development snapshots. -Derek On Fri, 21 Jan 2011, Peter P. wrote: > Hello Derek, > > I would like to know if the Paste option is present in the latest beta. Hello Derek, I would like to know if the Paste option is present in the latest beta. Pase means system (arbitrary previously selected) text pasting capability in the address fields of the Compose Mail screen. This is abosolutely necessary to be able to copy emails which are not in contacts. The only way to do that currently is by creating an address book entry with the new email (used once), and then select that from within LogicMail. The feature is not present in the 1.9.1.231 snapshot which I just installed. Do you plan to implement this in the future or is it already present in the 2.x beta? thanks, -- Peter |

I just reproduced your issue on my device, and wrote this ticket: http://www.logicprobe.org/proj/logicmail/ticket/277 I just hope I can reproduce it in the simulator as well, because on-device debugging gets quite painful. Hello and congrats on this great app. When I connect to any other than gmail imap server (imap.gmail.com) app notifies me almost instantly when there is a new email in the box but with gmail (google apps standard and before on regular gmail account) this just does not work. There is even no email shown unless I click "refresh status". This works fine on others servers ( non gmail, beside the fact that logicmail just disconnects at some point ) Any advice? Gmail not supporting IMAP idle for some clients (apps) ??? I have a "stupid" phone (bold 9000 4.6) ? Thank you Misha |

The program I use has a disable signature separator check box in its configuration. The only sensible reason I could see for disabling it, is if you wanted to automatically include text ahead of the signature, then you could add the separator manually below it. (The other reason, I guess, is if for some reason you wanted users of thunderbird, and other programs that grey it out, to be distracted from the message by the signature, and not to delete it automatically on reply.) -- Jess Hampshire Plain text emails with interleaved, trimmed replies please. Since 2.0 is already in string-freeze (so the translations can hopefully be brought up to date), I'm putting the feature ticket for this into the list for 2.1: http://www.logicprobe.org/proj/logicmail/ticket/270 > - Mark labels for each email Can you be more specific? This is something that is obviously IMAP-only, and support for non-standard labels might be inconsistently supported across servers. So if a feature for this is designed, I'll need some examples of how its normally done. > - Enable message threading You know, I've never actually enabled this feature on my desktop clients (mostly Thunderbird these days), but I can see how it could be useful. It might look a little awkward with a partially-downloaded mailbox, though. It would also be quite complex, since it would require a completely different mailbox screen design. (and one that might be a challenge to make touchscreen-compatible) So I'm not ruling it out forever, but it might be a little too much for now. > - Removal of double dashes in signature (optional) Adding those double-dashes was actually a specific user request. Apparently, they're the standard way of delimiting the signature block in E-Mail (technically its two dashes, a space, and a line-feed), so clients can detect the signature. Can you give me an example of another e-mail client that adds then, optionally, so I can see how they configure that? > - Offline storage of IMAP emails, whilst having updates whenever possible I already cache any message you read, so that's done. What I don't do yet is robust background polling and/or message download. That's the signature feature for 2.1, once I get the time to start designing it. (2.0-beta issues and correspondence may keep me busy for a while) > - Sort generic labels/folders/directories to the top level, i.e. Inbox, > Starred, Sent, All Mail, Trash, etc. Labels come underneath it. This is actually a decent idea, and one that might not be too hard to implement. For now, it'll just do folders that are specifically configured (i.e. Sent/Drafts), since the IMAP spec doesn't specifically mention any folder names beyond INBOX. Assigning this one to 2.0 for now, but it might get pushed to 2.1: http://www.logicprobe.org/proj/logicmail/ticket/271 > Am sure there are many more, but I hope that there's a comprehensive > roadmap that'd make Logicmail more feature-pack for usability. Hi, Thanks for making such a wonderful application! I hope to contribute as much as possible, even though I'm not an avid programmer. I've been using it briefly and I notice that the following features are lacking, is this in-development? Or something unplanned for? I've searched around the bug tracking but can't quite find it. - Mark messages unread/read - Mark labels for each email - Enable message threading - Removal of double dashes in signature (optional) - Offline storage of IMAP emails, whilst having updates whenever possible - Sort generic labels/folders/directories to the top level, i.e. Inbox, Starred, Sent, All Mail, Trash, etc. Labels come underneath it. Am sure there are many more, but I hope that there's a comprehensive roadmap that'd make Logicmail more feature-pack for usability. I look forward to understand Logicmail more and BB+JVM in general to help in development where possible. Thanks! :) Regards, KwangErn |

The most important problem was the signature, that is now fixed. The most useful one to me would be use of Blackberry mail folders and transports, since most of the time when I have wifi, I also have a computer with webmail. However, since obviously it is quite a major enhancement, the more straightforward feature I would most like is to only quote selected text.
