Hi, I'm trying to install Logicmail on a Blackberry 8320, with OS 4.5.0.37 (latest for this product). I tried with both 2.0.0.291 and 2.1.0.77. After the installation is complete I get an exception: Uncaught exception: java.lang.NullPointer Exception When I try to run 2.0.0.291, I accept the terms, in the splash screen the application closes and I get the same exception. When I try to run 2.1.0.77, I can't get past the splash screen, it's displayed forever with the progress circle goes on forever. Do you have any pointers for me? (IMAP) Thanks for a really useful program. At present my BIS email is broken, so this (and webmail when away from wifi) is all I can use. It is so much better than any mobile client I've used (and almost all desktop clients too ). It really should be in BB app world. (But I bet they'd want you to pay). -- Jess Hampshire Mailto:jes...@gm... Please trim the quoted message and interleave your replies, I am using a mobile. |

Hi, Will LogicMail work over a GPRS/ 3G connection, without a Blackberry data plan? I saw this question asked in a couple of other posts, but didn't see any replies. I am using LogicMail 2.0 (also tried 2.1 beta). They work when I am connected to the Internet over Wi-Fi, but when I switch to GPRS/ 3G nothing happens. I get popups saying LogicMail is unable to connect. Some forums posts mentioned getting the APN settings and putting in Option > Advanced Options > TCP. I did that, but that doesn't seem to have helped. Other apps, such as Opera Mini, work over GPRS/ 3G without a Blackberry data plan. They work irrespective of whether I put anything in the APN settings. I changed the connection settings from Auto to TCP, MDS, etc to see if any of those helps, but no luck. Any suggestions or ideas please? Thanks, Rakhesh |

Please don't drop support for OS 4.5. I know it's probably a bit of a pain, but I'd guess there are a number of users running 4.5. It works well for me and I can live without some of the new features if that's the case. Thanks for your work on this! Jorge, The project website is a wiki, so you can actually add a configuration guide page yourself. Just write it up and post it, and I'll fix any errors or typos that I see. -Derek On 11/18/2011 4:14 AM, Jorge Angel Martinez Mazon wrote: > Hello, my name is Jorge Martinez from Mexico, I found very useful this > application, I really appreciate all the effort that all your team is > doing. > > I just want to suggest that may be easier if you put a specific guide > for popular emails like gmail or hotmail, I know that you may have a > lot of work but sometimes blackberry users are not so related with the > POP or IMAP configurations, it can be something easy just some screen > captures and short instructions. > > I really would like to help doing this, I can write a short guide for > gmail or other servers, I will be very glad if you lend me help with > this, it can be a PDF or a link in your page, I am not looking to put > my name in there I just want to make easier for the user create an > account. > > Thanks for reading my suggestion. > > Best wishes > > Jorge Martinez > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > All the data continuously generated in your IT infrastructure > contains a definitive record of customers, application performance, > security threats, fraudulent activity, and more. Unfortunately I have no ideas as to the problem you're running into. However, I can tell you that I've done a lot more testing on a 9700 /w OS6 than with an 8820 /w OS 4.5 (and I really should have dropped OS 4.5 support with 2.1, especially since it won't work well with too many configured accounts, but I left support in there). My only suggestion is that when you get those exceptions, *immediately* go to the event log and look for those bold Java Exception items, and copy them to someplace you can send me. (assuming LogicMail is mentioned somewhere in the dump of text associated with it) -Derek On 11/18/2011 11:23 AM, Bruce wrote: > Derek: > > Chose the correct file, and upgraded LM from 2.0.0.258 to 2.1.0.77 Beta for OS 4.5 on a BB 8820. Derek: Chose the correct file, and upgraded LM from 2.0.0.258 to 2.1.0.77 Beta for OS 4.5 on a BB 8820. LM was working perfect before upgrade (ver=2.0.0.258) (Wanted to test it on 8820 before I ran it on my 'precious' bb 9700 with OS 6.). :) 1. The new license page produced an uncaught java exception. (don't recall details) 2. Then attempted to run LM and splash screen simple hangs ....... app will not load. 3. Checked Event Log and find several "a Java Exception - ForcedStackTraceException" error messages. (Will provide more details if desired) 4. Just now loaded ver=2.0.0.291 for os 4.5 (wanted to try the last 2.0 version) on 8820. License screen ok ... But app hangs on splash screen and produces Event Log error as per above. 5. Reloaded back to ver=2.0.0.258 for os 4.5 and things are back to normal. (FYI: ver=2.0.0.291 on bb 9700 with os 6 works just fine) Any ideas? |

Hello, my name is Jorge Martinez from Mexico, I found very useful this application, I really appreciate all the effort that all your team is doing. I just want to suggest that may be easier if you put a specific guide for popular emails like gmail or hotmail, I know that you may have a lot of work but sometimes blackberry users are not so related with the POP or IMAP configurations, it can be something easy just some screen captures and short instructions. I really would like to help doing this, I can write a short guide for gmail or other servers, I will be very glad if you lend me help with this, it can be a PDF or a link in your page, I am not looking to put my name in there I just want to make easier for the user create an account. Thanks for reading my suggestion. Best wishes Jorge Martinez |

For me is not working either. On WiFi is working without problems, without a bis subscription is not working. Opera mini and others are working fine. Only logicmail is not working. I was planning to debug the logicmail connection but I did not have time. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello, I have a question for the list. I have setup logicmail on my BB. Now, my email account requires Cram-MD5 authentication on outgoing and incoming mail. As far as I can determine this is not possible on incoming mail authenication on logicmail. I have been able to send emails because Cram-MD5 is available on the settings for smtp servers. Am I wrong and am missing something (for the incoming mail checks)? Google's IMAP server is "different" In terms of Sent messages, simply configure your client to not upload sent messages at all, and let Google take care of placing a copy in your Sent folder. Not only will Google's SMTP server do this for you, but it cuts your bandwidth usage for sent messages in half. -- Dave Warren, CEO Hire A Hit Consulting Services http://ca.linkedin.com/in/davejwarren On 10/6/2011 8:31 PM, Justin Goldberg wrote: > I was wondering about this myself with google apps/gmail. I know. I was just wondering whether you were talking about adding from headers or from the body. It sounds like you're talking about the headers. It looks like there's even a feature request ticket already open for this: http://www.logicmail.org/ticket/286 (which I should probably put higher on my priority list now) -Derek On 10/7/2011 8:25 AM, James Knott wrote: > I'm talking about easily copying the info to Contacts. I'm talking about easily copying the info to Contacts. For example, I'm using Seamonkey to read your message. I can right click on your name on the bar at the top of the message, next to "From:". I then have an option to add you to the address book. I don't see anything similar in LogicMail. The closest I can find it to open up the properties and then copy the entire address. I then have to go into Contacts to paste that info. But since it contains both the name and email address, I then have to do some editing to make the data usable. Copying the address into the address book or contacts is part of every email app I've used. The BB email app does it too. Its been said (on IRC, in the FreeNode/##imap channel) that "gmail is the IE6 of the IMAP world", and discoveries like yours seem to reinforce that sentiment. I think the bigger problem here is that most people expect Gmail to behave like any other mail server when using it via IMAP or POP, and get angry with the mail client when it doesn't. I actually wrote a whole blog post on the LogicMail website a few months ago ( http://www.logicmail.org/blog/gmail-web-imap-pop ), where I did a simple case example of one of Gmail's quirks. Of course you do eventually have to draw the line between cases where it makes sense to code around Gmail's uniqueness, and cases where just being a standard IMAP client (that works fine with everyone else) is good enough. Its not always obvious where that line gets drawn, either. For example, Google does implement some potentially useful features through Gmail's IMAP interface, and even occasionally submits them as RFCs to become standard parts of the protocol in the future. -Derek On 10/6/2011 11:31 PM, Justin Goldberg wrote: > I was wondering about this myself with google apps/gmail. Are you talking about copying a content from one of the recipient fields (e.g. "To", "From", "Cc") at the top of the message, or from somewhere within the message text itself? I was wondering about this myself with google apps/gmail. Drafts that begin on the phone are saved correctly on google's server, and can be edited later via the web interface if I choose the drafts folder in logicmails configuration. Another quirk is when I select Gmail\Sent as the sent folder on the phone, then the message is sent twice. It seems that when a message is copied to that folder, it is sent. But smtp works. There's a document on google's site that lists the imap actions and what they actually. For example, deleting a message just archives it, to the "all mail" label. Google probably had to do this to make the "label" database work, where an email can be in multiple labels. Another quirk is that when editing on the web in html mode rather than plain text, the saved draft shows up as an html attachment on the phone rather than editable text. But adding an html editor just for one provider would bloat the program. I have recently started using LogicMail with an IMAP server and while I realize it needs more work, it appears to be much better than the default BB email app. However, one thing appears to be missing. Is it possible to copy an address, from an email into Contacts? I know I can copy & paste, but it seems this is a basic function that's missing. tnx jk |

Thanks very much for the prompt reply - we'll go ahead with a pilot trial in 2 week's time when all the BlackBerry users are back from vacation. 1. Yes, just like any other folder 2. That depends on how you configure LogicMail. By default, it will use a local folder on the phone. However, you can easily reconfigure the account settings to use any folder on the IMAP server that you want. 3. There's no built-in way to synchronize these, but you can do one of two things: - Copy individual messages from the local folders to IMAP folders - Plug the BlackBerry into a desktop via USB, and copy off the actual directories it uses for local folders (obviously not supported or tested, but the actual file/folder format is basically Maildir.) -Derek On 09/20/2011 02:34 PM, andy thomas wrote: > This may be a daft question but I'm considering recommending LogicMail as > an IMAP email client on a customer whose staff have several Blackberries; > the customer has an IMAP server (Dovecot + Qmail on a FreeBSD host) and > the staff all use MS Outlook on Windows for their email. This may be a daft question but I'm considering recommending LogicMail as an IMAP email client on a customer whose staff have several Blackberries; the customer has an IMAP server (Dovecot + Qmail on a FreeBSD host) and the staff all use MS Outlook on Windows for their email. All mail folders, including sent mail, are stored on the IMAP server. My questions are: 1. will Blackberry users using LogicMail be able to access their sent messages folder on the server? 2. if a message is sent from the phone, will it be stored in the server's sent message folder, or will it be stored in a local folder on the phone? 3. if it's stored in a local sent message folder on the Blackberry, can this be synchonised with the server's sent messages folder later? Any help will be gratefully received. Andy --------------------------------- Andy Thomas, Time Domain Systems Tel: +44 (0)7866 556626 Fax: +44 (0)20 8372 2582 http://www.time-domain.co.uk |
