Just for the record, today I tried a few other Linux distributions under 
VirtualBox on my pc, and they all got the same jitter problem (I tried 
both 32 and 64 bit versions):

- OpenSuse
- Fedora
- (then, as I suspected a Gnome problem) Kubuntu
