Would it be enough if I remove the *bug* from confingure.in? (*embarrassed 
cough*) Just to be sure I'll make the script explicitly trust 
the '--enable-dlloader' option so we can force building an .o or .so lib. The 
default would still be to use dynamic library.

I'll file the patch to the bug when I've tested it today.

I'm not sure that is the problem this time, but you're completely right. We 
should require the development packages, but a working Xorg installation is 
optional.
