I have been having problems with an Intuos 2 tablet when using Vivid and now Wily with the AMD64 distros. Specifically, something in the Wacom driver changed between Utopic and Vivid. I verified my suspicion by running Live CDs of Trusty (14.04), Utopic (14.10), Vivid (15.04) and Wily (15.10) on the same machine. The tablet worked using Trusty and Utopic. It didn't with Vivid and Wily. In all cases xsetwacom --list devices returned the same information, so the tablet was recognized. On the same machine a Graphire 4 tablet works in all cases. My current setup is a fresh install of Wily with all updates plus xserver-xorg-input-wacom updated to 1:0.31.0-6 from Martin Owens PPA.
The tablet also is fine running on Windows on the same machine (dual booting) and an older Sony laptap running Bodhi 3.1.1 (which is based on Ubuntu Trusty (14.04 LTS).
The attachments are from a fresh boot with the Intuos 2 attached. I had to do everything from the keyboard.

This sounds like bugs [#247] and [#207]. The issue was first spotted in Ubuntu 11.10 "Oneiric" and was last seen causing issues in 13.10 "Quantal". From the information I've seen over the years, I'm pretty sure this is a bug in the hardware itself that's exposed by some kernels.
A workaround is posted in bug #247 if you're comfortable compiling and installing from source, but given the age of the hardware and the difficulty of fixing it (it'd take quite a bit of work to verify that the workaround doesn't cause some other subtle bug) we unfortunately won't be working this.

Thanks, I had seen the other reports but didn't understand their significance. I appreciate the help. I'll just gulp and get on with it. Perhaps it's time to bite the bullet and invest in a new tablet.
