Hi, so far I only get 2.4.9 running (more or less stable) on my A1200. The specs: A1200 Blizzard 603e, NoSCSI, 200, 040/40, 2x 64MB EDO (memtest says ok) BVision IDEFix 4way-Adapter 40 GB HDD (hda) Teac 32x CDROM (hdb) PCMCIA Fiberline When I try to use a kernel newer than 2.4.9 my system will run into a kernel panic right at the beginning. I tried the kernels from the APUS-Homepage. Any hints? I could provide some screenshots. Thanks Markus |

Hello, I installed Debian 3.0 on my Amiga 1200PPC. I'm using the latest boothack and latest kerenel (2.4.20). It installed fine, I configured the keyboard (selectec US keyboard) , the main and swap partitions, then I selected the install base system option and the base packages got installed from my SCSI cdrom. Then I rebooted the system and booted with the following command: bootstrap --apus -k vmlinux root=/dev/hda6 video=pm2fb:mode:800x600-60 nobats 60nsram The boot process starts OK, but it freezes on this part: *Setting the system clock using the hardware clock as reference.* I have to reset after, booted without startup-sequence and ran dmesg to get the log of the boot process and send it here, however the dmesg tool always tell me: *Searching for saveKMSG magic... Not found* BTW, the Algor and powerflyer are disabled when booting. My System specs: Amiga 1200T 603/240, 060/50, SCSI II, Yamaha 8824SCSI CDRW, Plextor 40X SCSI CDROM, Fujitsu 36GB 10KRPM SCSI HD, BVisionPPC, 256 MB FASTRAM, PowerFlyer EIDE, Scandex external scandoubler, ZIV busboard, Algor USB, Xsurf ethernet, Var I/O, Delfina Flipper sound card, Trendnet 56K external modem, Logitech optical mouse, 60 GB IDE HD space, AmigaOS 3.9 BB2 Any help will be greatly appreciated! APUS is the name for the kernel project for PowerPC Linux. Debian is one of many Linux distributions (and one that supports PowerPC ;-) ) there is no reason why you cant use the latest APUS kernel with the latest Debian distribution - its what most of us do! :-) lets get some things fixed 1) to use the CyberVisionPPC, simply add the correct 'video' comamnd to the end of your boothack line....eg video=pm2fb:mode:1024x768-60 2) cannot mount Amiga partitions? well, what Amiga Filesystem are those partitions? the kerneo l cannot read PFS2/PFS3 or FastFileSystem v50 (AmigaOS4 filesystem) the latest bleding edge kernel can read (read only!) SFS partitions. to mount, simply do (eg) mount -t affs /dev/hda2 /mnt > By the way, is there any doc on the video modes of the CybervissionPPC? its either covered int he boothack docs, or /usr/src/linux/drivers/video/cvppc.c ;-) (better documentaion is definately always needed!) alan |

Does anyone else with a 3000 have linux ppc up and running? If so, = could you tell me what versions of the different software you used? By the way, is there any doc on the video modes of the CybervissionPPC? Thank you very much, George |

Hmmmm, how do you manage the ppc, via powerUp or warpUp? IIRC I had similar problems when upgrading to OS 3.9 or something. I had to switch entirely to warpUp, i.e. load it at boot time (I think there's an official preferences tool for this to achieve). > bh000629 fails with compressed image too large. Any clue on the program fail error? As I said, may be related to the method how you access the cpu. Well, and telling from the error number, seems to be a general failure, so no specific causes. -- Best wishes, Andi |

Dusted of my 3K and thought I would try to get APUS going. System: 3000 Desktop (moved to tower case) CyberStorm PPC (128MB ram 60ns) bh010623 fails with: "bootstrap Program failed (error #80000004). Wait for disk ..." bh000629 fails with compressed image too large. I am trying the ramdisk.image.gz just to see if it will start up. using Kernel 2.4.20-1 command line: bootstrap --apus -k vmlinux -r ramdisk.image.gz root=3D/dev/ram note: I changed the name of the kernel to vmlinux Checked the FAQ and only saw about the question about the boothack = upgrade from 000629 to 010623. Any clue on the program fail error? Thank you very much, George |

Well, ppp and pppoe isn't exactly the same thing, no? I guess it's the=20= serial driver code in the kernel which crashes your machine. The ADSL=20 modem is connected via ethernet, as you stated. But, why aren't you buying an ADSL router? It's only a bit more=20 expensive than a normal ADSL modem, but your computer then is like a=20 normal host in a LAN and gets connected using a static or dynamic (via=20= dhcp) ip address! With an ADSL router, you can save yourself all the=20 pppoe hassles. This may be the easiest way to connect a host to the WAN. > I'm using the 2.4.18-apus kernel because > it feels like it's the best one right now, > except that Internet doesn't work of course :(. > > If I'm using the 2.4.4 kernel the pppd daemon > dies just before I get connected to the net. Well, ask the maintainer of the apus kernel package in debian ;) --=20 Best wishes, Andi= |

If I connect a ADSL ethernet modem, will KPPP crash the whole system just as easy as if you had connected an old ordinary modem? I'm using the 2.4.18-apus kernel because it feels like it's the best one right now, except that Internet doesn't work of course :(. If I'm using the 2.4.4 kernel the pppd daemon dies just before I get connected to the net. When will there be a newer kernel available? (A precompiled 2.4.21 kernel perhaps..?) -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "Debian rocks!!" |

Hi! I recently got a tip from Chris Hodges. It is possible to disable the HighwayUSB hardware with this command: addusbhardware devs:usbhardware/highwayusb.device REMOVE It works excellent! :) He wasn't very keen on making drivers for Linux, though. He said that it would be a waste of time. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "Debian rocks!!" |

Will there be a serious attempt on getting a test kernel working with the HighwayUSB SOON? Maybe someone could alter the bootstrap with a new command which disables my HighwayUSB? At least I don't need to remove the hardware each time I'm going to boot Linux.. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "Debian rocks!!" |
