Hi, > Also, I would appreciate someone with a similar setup to mine > (PPC+BVision) sending me their working XF86Config file (both version 3 and > 4) so that I can tinker with the settings. ALAN SAID>you already have it - in the contrib drawer :-) When I look in the contrib drawer I find 1 version 3 config and 1 version 4 config. These are the ones I already have, they aren't working well for me. If there are supposed to be various examples where are they. Again, I ask for a working XFree86-3 Config to give me something to compare my original with. I am currently experiencing problems getting online using linux. I have put in my ISP details but never get asked for any login details as expected, and just get cut off without any info as to what went wrong. How can I find out what went wrong? Trouble shooting like this is my main problem, linux doesn't seem to tell you much thats going on. Is there any walkthrough covering getting online, the details I have seem so simple but it's not working. XFree 4.x is fully supporting the Framebuffer and Amiga devices such as BVision and CVision straight away..... XFree86 uses a central core which then loads the required module which drives the hardware detected. ie no extra bits to stick in at all. alan |

Hi, Long ago when I installed XFree86.3.3.6 I had to replace XFBDev with one made by Geert U. , (very old), to make it work, if I want to use XFree86 4.x do I have to do the same or is there another way to configure it ? Regards, Rick |

Hi Alan, Thanks for the information. I'll change my bootstap line accordingly. Firstly I think I need to get hold of Xfree4. I've not yet used Linux to access the net and don't know the address to get hold of Xfree4 anyway. I will work on getting linux online but I was wondering if I could download the stuff I need using the amiga and then use apt-get to install it off my hd. I don't want to download the files i need and then make a cock up and then have to go about downloading it all over again.( I believe it's over 20mb) I have a ffs partition that Linux can access. If I can do this, where do I get hold of XFree4, I know it will be on a Debian site somewhere but I'm not totally sure what I'm looking for or where to look. Any help with an uptodate address would be great. I have found an address at ftp.us.debian.org/XFree86/ that has different versions but I'm unsure whether these are for Intel machines or would be suitable for my Miggy. I don't want to make a huge download for nothing. If I'm going about this in totally the wrong way, can someone tell me. Regards, Dave ( jo...@co... ) I like pigs. Dogs look up to us. Hi , I have recently attempted to install linux on my towered A1200 PPC + BVision. I am installing from a purchased set of 3CD's, debian GNU/Linux2.2r3 Official PPC Binary, Are these disks up todate with current versions. I am using vmapus-2.4.4 and the latest boothack. I am having problems setting my monitor up correctly, even though I do have a working linux setup. The screen is not centered on the monitor and it scrolls quite abit. I boot into an 800x600 console, but X seems to be in 640x480. If I try to boot into a larger screenmode it still runs in 800x600. I would like to know where to find some easy to understand instructions on getting this problem sorting out, or if anyone can easily explain that would be great. Currently I am running Xfree86-3 but intend downloading version 4. (the address where to get this would be great) Also, I would appreciate someone with a similar setup to mine (PPC+BVision) sending me their working XF86Config file (both version 3 and 4) so that I can tinker with the settings. And what exactly is the problem with > the partition? Isn't e2fsck running automatically on it? No, it used to be a LinuxPPCQ4 perfectly normal partition, but after many failed attempts to install Debian in another partition, somewhat it got screwed up, and I tried fsck -p -y to recover it, from the other partition (before mounting it), and the only thing it managed to recover was the lost+found directory. Because it was a non reliable installation, the one I used to call the fsck command (didn't have fstab), I'm not sure if my other partition is lost, or if there is a way to recover at least some data. Or does the server simply not have the same priority on port 80 than on others under heavy load? BTW: Today I discovered to new kernel build, which you have obviously already done yesterday.. Thank you very much!! Hmm, but there is a minor problem: I can't unpack the kernel image lha archive, I only get errors. Some files seem to be ok, some not. Especially the vmlinuz file is not ok.. I've dowoloaded it two times to exclude connection errors, but the behaviour was still the same. -- All the best, Andi |

Well, seems as packet is a module, but the woody install > manual tells me it should definitely by compiled into the kernel to have the > kernel working as a boot-floppy kernel. May this be an idea for future kernel > compilations to support installations over network for users with x-surf? yes! this is very useful information. Hello Rick, > Hi, > I need a utility to recover and ext2 partition, so far what I've > seen doesn't work with apus, anyone knows about any ? Which ones have you used so far? And what exactly is the problem with the partition? Isn't e2fsck running automatically on it? Bye, Pieter. PS. Michel, better this way? I think i'm going to switch off the digest mode, it's still not handling the threads properly anyway. PPS. Rick, I think you better not use reply, if starting a new thread. -- Pas op de muonen! |

Use a basedebs tarball. ;) Seriously though, that's an infamous bug. I don't think it really has to do with the Release file at all; at least when we installed a box at work, the error seemed to appear to quickly for it to even have a chance to download it.
