Hi, I am still having problems configuring XFree86-4, I have edited various X config files without success. I have included both my XF86Config-4 and the error log. I have experimented with almost all the different configs I have come across. The point in the log where things go wrong is quite obvious but up till now has not been explained. As usual any help is much appreciated, but for a while I have been at a complete standstill. (I am using a 2.2.10 kernal) I'm sorry to keep asking questions, but once this is working I can get on with using my system with little or no tinkering. Hi! What is the standard port for ppp? I have a A4000 with a 56k telix modem connected on the standard serial port. I assume it is ttyS0 but I'm not sure.. The pppconfig program couldn't identify which port the modem was connected so either the modem isn't recognized by my Debian system OR the ppp is not compiled into the kernel, and since loading of modules fails, this is not an option. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "The power of open source" |

Hi! I have 2 very important questions here. Is Mediator and Grex supported by the 2.4.18-apus kernel? I have plans to buy this hardware in a not so far away future, IF, it is supported by Linux, that is.. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "The power of open source" |

Hi After some advise I have tried the new 2.4.18-2 kernal and had a bit more progress. The kernal doesn't now probe for PCI hardware so it doesn't panic there, but it does probe for IDE later in the boot process, after IDE had earlier been enabled. This does cause the Kernal to panic...Doh! The kernal does ask for this to be reported. Have any A1200 PPC+BVision owners managed to get this kernal to boot with there setup and if so how? The 2.2.10 kernal doesn't "probe" the ide a second time and my hd and cdrom work perfectly, is this actually necessary in the latest kernal? Can this be disabled? In addition to this problem I have managed to install woody to a point but am unable to get a working XFree86-4Config, the ones on the apus site don't work and I seem pretty sure that they don't work for most people re queries on this list (after obvious tweaking for personal moniter specs) Michael Danzer has suggested some amendments to my X config file but none of the changes seem to affect the resulting x failure. I would be greatful if anyone with a working X-config using a PPC+BVision could send me a copy to look at. Hi, I still have some problem with 2.4.x kernels: when it comes to havy disk activity (e. g. cp -a /usr/src/linux /tmp), the system hangs (i. e. heart beat stops). Should this be an A3000T only problem? The same hardware configuration works properly with 2.2.10. Meanwhile, I've checked my SCSI configuration again (active termination, short cable length, small number of devices), but it is ok. Then I removed all expansion boards except "Ariadne" -- without success. At the moment, I'm using the latest kernel image from sourceforge, because I thought, maybe my self compiled kernel shows this problem due to bugs in certain verions of gcc/binutils, but the problem still exists. I've even tried the new driver for the UW SCSI controller (it works perfectly till heart beat stops), but there is no change according to my problem. Finally, I started a fresh FTP installation of SuSE Linux PPC 7.3 on an empty partition. It was working properly until a new file system should be created :-( For now, I'm clueless. Maybe someone can help me :-) BTW: As a start, I'm still trying to get a text only system working. I'm using pm2fb only (CVPPC), amifb is off. Bye. -- Dipl.-Inform. Hi! Today I downloaded the latest 2.4.18 release of the APUS kernel. Is sound supposed to work with this kernel? Is it builtin or compiled as a module? Hi, I have a number of problems with my new woody installation, some of them are in the process of being sorted, thanks for all the help people are giving me. One new problem is that I can't get XFree86-4 to run. I have edited an available XFreeConfig-4 with my own monitor details but X fails and reports lots of errors similar to the line below Symbol _RamDacInit_ from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/glint.dv.0 is unresolved the part saying RamDacInit is different on each of about 20-30 errors. I am using kernal 2.2.10 with woody. The above mentioned glint.dv.o is where it says in the error message. Can anyone tell me what's going on. Hi! I'm still looking for LhA, it seems the binary which was available at the official lha page didn't include a ppc version. I even tried to compile a version myself but failed, so if anyone can compile me a version or send me a link to a place where this LhA exist I would be very grateful. Earlier I had an existing version LhA which I've taken from the linuxppc site, but it seems as this site isn't available anymore. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "The power of open source" |

I don't know which bootstrap version is shipped within this directory (but I guess it's the newest one..). What I did: I took all the newest stuff directly from the APUS website on sourceforge, say, bootstrap (aka boothack) and kernel. Kernel: if you're working with the debian stuff, you're going with 2.2.10. I suggest taking the 2.4.17 or 2.4.18-1 kernel directly from the APUS website (2.4.18-2 has the cyberstormppc scsi driver built in, but as you are not needing it anyway and since it's still experimental I would recommend to first stick with 2.4.18-1 to be "on the save side"). > I have "manualy" uncompressed LINUX.BIN, and then I can launch the > installer, choose my language, and the machine freeze at the "release > notes" page (the page is half displayed, no more heartbeat...). > > Does anybody know what is going on ? Now my problem : When I try to launch the Debian installer (bootstrap --apus -k linux.bin -r root.bin root=/dev/ram video=pm2fb:mode:800x600-60) I get this message : "The kernel will be located at 0x46000000 Kernel is compressed Uncompressing kernel image...................... Compressed image is too large ! Aborting crc errorDecompression error --aborting" I have "manualy" uncompressed LINUX.BIN, and then I can launch the installer, choose my language, and the machine freeze at the "release notes" page (the page is half displayed, no more heartbeat...). Does anybody know what is going on ? Thanks in advance for ANY help. -- Charly "SB. Nose" DAINOTTO |
