Hallo, I found the 3.0 of DebianPPC, is it usable on my Amiga? Another question about the use of the boostrap program, it starts loading the kernel, but after a while it tells me that the kernel image is too big. I found the Debian installation instructions, but I don't understand something: after the bootstrap how I can install Debian? I can launch the installation program on the debian cd? Thanks, Pietro. -- ICQ: 113394011, Il FeSToso: 88, Linux User: 205301 I will build myself a copper tower With four ways out and no way in But mine the glory, mine the power (So I chose Amiga) |

Hi! It seems that I currently have a wrong keylayout. My shift keys don't work, and the alt key get treated like they were the shift keys. The control key doesn't work either, so I can't switch from X to a text terminal. It's a file which haveto be modified to fix this, but where is this file? Is it my XF86Config which needs to be adjusted, perhaps? I have a A2000 keyboard attached to my A4000Desktop. -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "Debian rocks!!" |

Hi all, I am new to linux and successfully installed linuxppc1999 (with force and pain) on my A1200PPC240/060+Bvisionppc. XFree does not work yet since I am missing a config file for my permedia2. Here are my questions : How to make my scsi cdrom burner recognized ? if I mount the dev cdrom, I get the IDE one. Is yellow dog linux working on PPC amiga (just put my hand on it, from a cover magazine) ? How to mount a zip drive using the vario board ? Where to get a Xfree config file for permedia2 ? The kernel I use is 2.2.10 (vmapus2000518.lha) and so far the 2.4.4 and 2.4.9 do not work. Regards Lio |

This should be quite a trivial task. Just download the following files on= the AmigaOS side with the browser of your choice: kernel source: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/kernel-source-2.4.18/ download kernel.source-2.4.18_2.4.18-5_all.deb (22.8MB) or kernel-source-2.4.18_2.4.18.orig.tar.gz (28.4MB) (I am not sure which of them, maybe someone more experienced may comment on this) kernel patch: http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/k/kernel-patch-2.4.18-apus/ download kernel-patch-2.4.18-apus_2.4.18-3_powerpc.deb (338KB) and copy it to your exchange partition. In Debian, copy them to your debi= an partition and install them (hoping the affs driver will not fsck your dat= a, but it seems to be pretty stable also with big files). Additionally you need certain tools to build kernels the Debian Way(tm), = but this isn't a problem as you should have the Woody CD's IIRC (oh btw, if y= ou want to build a 2.4.17 kernel, no need to download anything, just search = your CD's for kernel-source and kernel-package with aptitude or apt). Consult = one of the many good HOWTO and FAQs how to compile a kernel on a debian syste= m (at the end of the build process, you will have a complete debian package= with your kernel, ready for system compliant installation!). Before building, = just apply the debian specific patches you've donwloand with the second packag= e to the kernel source, then start building. For basic configuration of your kernel you may take a look at the kernel config of your currently installed kernel, or copy it over the config of = the new kernel, so you have some starting point. Well, it may take a while till it's finished, but it seems to be worth th= e trouble if you desperately need the functionality you're talking about. --=20 Best wishes, Andi |

Hi, I am running Debian Potato with XFree86 3. I have a full woody set of CD's but am unable to get XFree86 4 to work at all. Unfortunately, I can't use any of the other software on the woody cds because the system always wants to upgrade everything including X, which then won't work. How can I use the updated versions of say gimp, mozilla apache etc without the need to update X. I will come back to the problem with X later but at the moment I would just like to use the other updated packages. Is this possible and if so how? Any help will be great. Hi! I was wondering what has happened to the development of my ppp problem. As you might remember I have been unable to connect to the internet with Debian3.0 and as someone mentioned this could be due to a software problem or it could be a hardware problem but I hope not. When will a newer kernel be released? Currently I'm using 2.4.18-apus kernel and I have managed to get sound working a while ago, but the graphics doesn't work yet. I should have a CybervisionPPC connected by the end of next week if nothing goes wrong, then I will hopefully get some graphics too =). Please, have anyone successfully got internet access working with this kernel? |
