Hello, I have taken a Optrex DMC-50461N display module from a scrapped Lexmark pri= nter. It contains a 4x20 LCD on one side and on the other the ICs: M50530= -001FP, M50524FP, a Philips 1325956 and a few other smaller components. I= t has a 5-pin connector and 6 soft plastic buttons. Questions: 1) Would it be possible to use the display with lcd4linux? 2) How would it connect? I do not have any specs at all of how the module i= nterfaces, so no data on what the pins mean, timing, etc.. 3) It this display generic enough to be used for other purposes than status= display for a Lexmark printer, or is it effectively "closed"? This is my 1st posting to the list, hope it is not too off-topic. Cheers, /Dag --- dag...@ho... 0706 - 38 02 22 |

Just in case somebody's looking for a nice embedded distro with support for lcd4linux: Version 2.0 of LEAF Bering uClibc released Bering uClibc is an easy-to-use embedded Linux system that is meant for creating network appliances for use in small office, home office, and home automation environments. Although it can be used in other ways, it is primarily used as a gateway/router/firewall for Internet leaf sites. Some highlights of version 2.0 - support of ipv6 plus an ipv6 firewall like shorewall - all available as a drop-in replacement - small sshd replacement dropbear on base floppy - update uClibc to version 0.9.20 - update of busybox to use more applets and replacing bigger standalone applications and a lot more cleanups, application updates et al - for a complete changelog please read http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=91003&page_id=39 Bering uClibc 2.0 also provides an lcd4linux package (available here http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=91017&page_id=51 ) To read more about Bering uClibc go to http://leaf.sourceforge.net/mod.php?mod=userpage&menu=910&page_id=36 Martin |

But for some things i would need a simple Textscrolling from left to right in a row, when a Text in a row is longer that the aviable Displaywidth. Is this Feature planned for some future Release? You have to configure it as 8x20 > In 8x20 mode, the first 4 positions of the rows 5 to 8 are always empty. > Don't know, whats the matter. Maybe I found the solution! First, the only datasheet I have consists of several .pxc-files with poor quality. So if someone has a good datasheet, please let me know. Now for the content: my datasheet does not now anything about displays with more than 4 rows. So I had to do some trial&error here, looks like you were bitten by an error. could you please try the following: in the M50530.c, function "M5_goto()", you find the following: if (row>3) pos-=168; Please try to replace the 168 (which is 4*48-24) with 172 (which is 4*48-20) If this works for you, I will add this change to the CVS. bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Well, as always, it depends :-) I think there are not that many displays out there _not_ supported by lcd4linux. Dear Michael, Thanks, I added the following lines to /etc/lcd4linux.conf: Wire.RS INIT Wire.RW AUTOFD Wire.ENABLE STROBE Wire.GPO SELECT Works fine, though still 2x16 rather than 2x20 - I think I am a victim of "specifications being subject to change without notice". My old Olivetti M86 (8086 based PC) hardware manual is still useful for translating the pin numbers used at Smartie to the names above. At least some things don't change. Regards, Greg Wood. As it's a graphic display (it is, isn't it?), and has USB connection, there is definitely no driver for it. > (2)One more thing I am unable to understand that "What and how we can > write the data we want to the usblcd and" Writing a driver should be quite easy. You could take a graphic driver (T6963) as a basis. > My aim to capture the PC monitor 's 640-by-480 screen (Monochrome) > and put it as output on the LCD(Gran Pacific Coprporation) Well, thats another story. If you find a way to fetch the screen data from the kernel, it should be easy to display it on your LCD. > I am not very good at C programmming and findig the driver > difficult to understand...Please help me The first action should be getting a datasheet for the display! bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hi Matt, > The latest version, 0.9.11, doesn't seem to work very well at all on my > lcd. I have a revision of the Crystalfontz 634. 0.9.10 works perfectly > (with a single patch of mine), apparently the Crystalfontz driver in > 0.9.11 was rewritten and I get some random ascii on my lcd with it. Too bad. But you are right, there has been a completely rewrite of the CF driver. the reason was that the new icon stuff required some changes to all drivers, and as the original CF developer is out of reach for me, I failed to understand his code :-( So I did this rewrite, but as I don't own a CF display, I had to do this "blind". Maybe I failed :-) There's been a user out there who did some basic testing, but it seems to me as if he's lost interest. So without any feedback.... > Is this a known issue, or perhaps noone has a later (relatively) > revision of the 634? Now for the good news: Brent from CrystalFontz already sent me two CF displays! They are on their way over the ocean. As soon as I get these displays, CF support will be _much_ better! So stay tuned! bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

I don't know which wiring LCD Smartie uses, but that should be easy to find out (check their web site?). Then try to clone this wiring with the "Wire.xy" entries in the lcd4linux.conf. Good Luck! bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hi, Has anyone tried to get this software to work with the Accent HTPC boxes which use an unspecified VFD and IR device. There is some mention of Samsung in the documentation. I've tried the HD*, M5*, and the two Toshiba drivers with no luck at all. These I believe are the only parallel port drivers (?). I set the lcd4*.conf device line to /dev/parport0, as I assume this is the regular printer port. Do I need to do anything to get the printer off this port? Before loading Linux, I tried a software driver they recommend for Windows, "Smartie" which has a parallel interface to the HD* chip. It presented 16x2, whereas the display boasted 20x2. Thanks, Greg Wood |
