Hi Daniel, > Thanks heaps for replying. I don't have any Wire.* entries in > lcd4linux.conf. I soldered EN to INIT and RS to AUTOFD because the manual > said that was the default. Does that mean that I actually have to put in > Wire.* entries too? No, you don't have to, if you follow the default. But you are not using the default: "Enable" should be "Strobe" Which manual are you talking about? Maybe there's a glitch in the Documentation. In the meantime I had a look at the datasheet you sent me. You did connect like the following: Display Parport 1 (DB7) 9 (DB7) 2 (DB6) 8 (DB6) 3 (DB5) 7 (DB5) 4 (DB4) 6 (DB4) 5 (DB3) 5 (DB3) 6 (DB2) 4 (DB2) 7 (DB1) 3 (DB1) 8 (DB0) 2 (DB0) 16 (EN) 1 (Strobe) 17 (RS) 14 (AutoFD) This should work without any Wire.* entries. If you want to stay with your wiring (Enable=Init), you should specify this line: Wire.ENABLE Init Another possible reason for this errors could be that your display needs +5V as a "high" signal, but yopur parport delivers 3.3V only. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

But as time goes by seeing this LCD not working i get closer > to this option :) Well, as long as it's not a multilayer print with more than two layers, this should be possible. There should be no problem removing the display itself. There is this metal frame which is normallly clamped on the print by 4 or six "Blechlaschen" (sorry, my english doesn't reach that level). The electronic connection between the display glass and the print is made with "leitfähiger Gummi". The only issue when re-assembling is to find the correct position again. I've done this several time, too. I didn't destry anything. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hi all! i have an LCD with the M50530 controller. The display has 2 char-lines (2= 0=20 chars each) and one line with special signs. my problem now is, that i ca= nnot=20 use the wiring shown at the Displays-page, because the connector of my=20 display has only 14 pins, not 16! the question now is how to translate th= at=20 to get my display working?! anyone got an idea how to do this? i have goo= gled=20 a lot but didnt find anything useable, the datasheet of the M50530 doenst= =20 help either.=20 so far i only get the init-screen of the LCD, which means when i power it= up,=20 it shows one line dark (all pixels), one line light (no pixels) and the h= alf=20 of the special characters. thats all, when i start up lcd4linux nothing=20 happens, no wonder to the wiring i cant use... anyone got any ideas how to fix that? i'd be glad! thx, janK |

Hi LCD4Linux users and developers, here's a short progress report: I just got the "default layout" from the old lcd4linux working on my MatrixOrbital unsing the new evaluator-style. I'm going to call this the "Next Generation" :-) Default Layout means: *** Linux 2.4.22 *** i686 CPU 1024 MB RAM Busy 13.0% [Bar] Load 0.2 [Bar] This means: - a lot of framework is here - the text widget is working - the bar widget is working - some basic plugins (/proc/cpuinfo, /proc/stat, ...) are working - the MatrixOrbital Driver is working to let more people work with the code, I'm going to port the next driver to the new architecture. I suppose the HD44780 is widely used, so this will be the next one. If YOU don't have neither a MatrixOrbital nor a HD4470, send me a box of beers, and I will think over my decision :-) stay tuned! bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Hello Michael and other readers of this list. LCD4LINUX is a great tool, I used it now for some time on a monitor-less server 24/7; the LCD is a md44780 20x4 char What i really like to see (if possible) in a future release of LCD4LINUX is the possiblity to setup more screens and switch the screens by a press of a button. I know I can setup more screens and let the screens scroll continuously. Are there people out in the group who like this idea to? regards Piet __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Hi development team, this is the first post to lcd4linux-devel. Hope you all arrived here. Just if you forgot, a CC'ed lcd4linux-users, too. I wanted to let you know that I just extended the config file parser, so that "groups" are possible. the syntax is: same as ever: key "value" new: group anyname { subkey "subvalue" } or even: Layout "LargeScreen" { Display "TheBigOne" { Port "/dev/tts/0" Speed 2400 } } The values are accessed like this: "key" returns "value" as ever "group:anyname.subkey" returns "subvalue" "Layout:LargeScreen.Display:TheBigOne.Port" returns "/dev/tts/0" You see, the ':' connects the two group specifiers, and the '.' connects sub-keys and/or sub-groups This will bee needed for the new "widgets" which are next on my ToDo-List. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Shouldn't it be updated > whenever something changes in CVS (which _should_ happen very regular). > Or should this be updated only when creating a debian package? I can be updated when making packages, but it would be better to manually update the date when commiting, so one should build his pacakge without modifying it after checkout? About maintaining, I'm sorry but I don't have a very useable internet connection, maybe before this summer the wifi network will be up in my village (in fact between 3 houses, very large network ;) ) and I'll maybe be able to take the package, but for the moment Luk or Sam should make the package enter debian first and take care of it. But easier would be to look at the times of the autotools-dev package versions as the maintainer of autotools-dev keeps track of when they need to change for debian. > Samuel will get CVS access. Xavier already has. Luk, do you want, too? Hi there, I want to let you know that I just created a new mailing list lcd4linux-devel. This should be the official "LCD4Linux Development Team" address, so every developer should be subscribed there. Please do so by sending a mail "subscribe" to mailto:lcd...@li... Of course all of you are invited to subscribe to this list, not only developers. I want to split the general announcements and user's questions from all the development stuff. Another reason are copyright issues: I want the "copyright holder" of all future code to be the "LCD4Linux Development Team" with the above email address. This way I triy to keep the Debian "copyright" file (which has to contain every copyright holder) a bit smaller :-) bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt Tel: +43 676 3079941 Geisslergasse 4 Fax: +43 316 692343 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

I think the best would be to do the contrary: generate the html page also. That's why I made the man source in sgml so that you should be able to generate the html as well as the man page from it. > >> Samuel, I'm counting on you! So it should only be updated when a debian package is created. The debian revision (exept if only things in the debian directory are changed) is then always 1 (ie 0.9.11+20040106cvs-1). >> * there should be done an autotools update (libtoolize --force >> --copy;aclocal-1.4;autoconf) > > > Done, thank you. > How do I know if I should do such an update?
