Hi lcd4linux users and developers. Im involved in a project running related to running systems onuClinux on Blackfin. Recently i got the task to implement the hardware and software needed for a HD44780 LCD via I2C for the blackfin. Doing that i got the ide to try to port either lcdproc or lcd4linux. Lcdproc failed on some shared library build(may persue that later) but i made a successful build of lcd4linux and i have also made a uClinux patch for HD44780 over i2c(via pfc8574). Has this been done? Tried to search for any other LCD-uClinux projects but with no luck. Instructions on how to set it up, and also notes on the patch at: http://www.vpx.nu/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=displays Also, note that i did(in function rep_nop for the delays) - __asm__ __volatile__("rep; nop"); + __asm__ __volatile__("nop"); since i think rep is IA32 specific. Dont know if this is a good final solution for all platforms. Im sure some developer can use the patch and incorporate it to a future release in a sweet mannner, a configure switch of --with-uclinux would be nice:). Im not a make guru so i did not do it so fancy. Hope anyone else can try it out on their embedded system. regards Hans Eklund Developer www.rubico.se blackfin.uclinux.org |

Hi guys, I want to try and add support for the lcdserializer. It is a normal HD44780 connected through a PIC to a serial port at 9600 = baud.=20 All data sent to the PIC is relayed to the LCD as data, except if = preceded by 0xFE, in which case the following char is sent as a command. Now, my question: Should I add this as a new driver, or add another bus to the HD44780 = driver? And I didn=E2=80=99t know if I should post here or in dev=E2=80=A6 = =E2=98=BA Thanx, Errol |

Hi, Sorry just discovered that I missed one line out of the diff. Once you've applied the patch you need to modify plugin_file.c and add... #include <errno.h> after the #include<string.h> line. Hi, Now that I've got lcd4linux to output some text on my CrystalFontz 635 I've had some time to play with the system. I've come across a couple of issues. The first was that whenever I press the Cancel button on the keypad it did nothing. Down, left, right and Confirm all did fine. However when I pressed Up I got an Up event and a Cancel event raised. After some investigating I discovered the offending line to be in the drv_CF_keypad function. The code had Cancel Key Pressed as being 7 when page 14 of CrystalFontz data sheet says its 6. Having looked a bit more in depth at this it look like the released events were never converted correctly either as they were 1 out. The patch attached fixes this issue. The second was some missing functionality. I gather from the wiki there is currently no way of switching layouts from a key press. Unfortunately I don't have time to implement that so I've made lcd4linux read from a text file for the output to display and another program handles updating the display. To aid in this I added some extra functions to the file plugin... file::writeline(string file, string text, int mode) This writes the line of text to the specified file. If mode is 0 it appends the text, if it is 1 it overwrites the file with the text. It returns a blank string so is only really useful in key handlers. file::exec(string command) This function runs the command. Unlike exec it runs the command only once and doesn't return any output text. This makes it useful for controlling the system from a key handler. I've attached a diff that contains these additions and I give you full permission to incorporate the code in lcd4linux. Mike |

Hi I'm trying to get lcd4linux to work with my CrystalFontz 635. When I start lcd4linux it clears the display and sets the brightness and contrast but then displays nothing. I'm running the cvs version which was checked out today. Here's my lcd4linux.conf file... Display CF635 { Driver 'Crystalfontz' Model '635' Port '/dev/ttyUSB0' Speed 115200 Icons 4 Contrast 16 Backlight 80 } Widget OS { class 'Text' expression '*** '.uname('sysname').' '.uname('release').' ***' width 20 align 'M' speed 100 update tick } Layout Default { Row1 { Col1 'OS' } } Variables { tick 500 } Display 'CF635' Layout 'Default' and I run lcd4linux -Fvv and get... [root@TIGGER lcd4linux]# lcd4linux -Fvvq Version 0.10.1-CVS starting plugin_cfg.c: Variable tick = '500' (500) [KVV] Using station 89 [KVV] Using default port 80 [KVV] Using default refresh interval of 60 seconds [KVV] Default abbreviation setting: off lcd4linux.c: initializing driver Crystalfontz Crystalfontz: $Revision: 1.47 $ Crystalfontz: using model '635' Crystalfontz: using port '/dev/ttyUSB0' at 115200 baud Crystalfontz: display identifies itself as 'CFA635:h1.0,v1.4' Crystalfontz: display type 'CFA635', hardware version 1.0, firmware version v1.4 Crystalfontz: reserving 4 of 8 user-defined characters for icons Crystalfontz: using 4 GPI's and 12 GPO's initializing layout 'Default' lcd4linux.c: starting main loop Can anyone see what I'm doing wrong... I know it's talking to the device as it gets cleared and I can change the brightness. Thanks in advance for your help! Mike |

Hi all, I tested a lcd screen for GPIO port of soekris, following instuctions of 2 links : http://soekris.hejl.de/ http://centerclick.org/lcd/ I tried with a orion module 4*20 (datasheet on this link : http://www.lextronic.fr/ODT/20x4/20416B.zip ) However, i got a little problem : i don't have display. I use the last gpio driver 1.3.2 of Martin Hejland, tested and approuved by another user.. The error_led, temp and voltage work fine. But lcd4linux display nothing information. (link of the schema used : http://paracyber.org/other/shema.PNG ) I use a 4-Bit wiring but without success :-( Today, just one time the sign 0 on the display, after many configuration of lcd4linux. Here, the important part of my config file and the log of lcd4linux : # GPIO HD44780 display (LCD4Linux wiring) Display HD44780-gpio { Driver 'HD44780' Port '/dev/gpio0' Size '20x4' Bits '4' asc255bug 0 Wire { RW 'DB5' RS 'DB4' ENABLE 'DB6' GPO 'GND' } } Layout Test { Row01.Col1 'Test' Row02.Col1 'Test' Row03.Col1 'Test' Row04.Col1 'Test' } Display 'HD44780-gpio' Layout 'Test' Variables { tick 500 tack 100 minute 60000 } ############################################# Logs : Darkvabox# lcd4linux -Fvv Version 0.10.0 starting plugin_cfg.c: Variable minute = '60000' (60000) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tack = '100' (100) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tick = '500' (500) lcd4linux.c: initializing driver HD44780 HD44780: using model 'generic' HD44780: using parallel port HD44780: using 1 Controller(s) HD44780: using 4 bit mode udelay: CPU supports Time Stamp Counter udelay: CPU runs at 266.655000 MHz udelay: using TSC delay loop, 267 ticks per microsecond HD44780: using ppdev /dev/gpio0 HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:RS]<==>[PARPORT:DB4 (Pin 6)] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:RW]<==>[PARPORT:DB5 (Pin 7)] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:ENABLE]<==>[PARPORT:DB6 (Pin 8)] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:ENABLE2]<==>[PARPORT:GND] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:ENABLE3]<==>[PARPORT:GND] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:ENABLE4]<==>[PARPORT:GND] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:BACKLIGHT]<==>[PARPORT:GND] HD44780: wiring: [DISPLAY:GPO]<==>[PARPORT:GND] HD44780: not using busy-flag checking initializing layout 'Test' lcd4linux.c: starting main loop Another very important thing: I am a shit in electronics :) If somebody can confirm that lcd4linux is valid and shoud be working ... perhaps that my connections are bad :-S (but i tested and re-tested) Any ideas ? Hello all! I hope this list is still active, since there were no posts in almost a month. I'll post anyway. :-) After some experimenting (and cursing) :-) I have finally managed to build myself an adaptor to connect my BA64-Display to my router. I've checked the adaptor twice before connecting it. RTS/CTS as well as RXD/CXD are connected, +12V I'm getting from inside the machine and all ground is on the same potential (all connected!). So this should be fine. Static data is displayed just fine, but as soon as it comes to changing data, i.e. Uptime or data-troughput, it completely screws up. :-( Example given: Row 1: Scroller with router name, circuit and IP-address Row 2: Router-Uptime Both rows full length (20 colums). It's hard to describe what the display does. I'll try anyway. The changing seconds in the uptime are displayed in Row 1, either as last digit, or they trail the scroller. (clear?) If not, I've recorded a clip using my and a friend's cellphone. One is in the 3gp-format, the other is MPEG4. http://home.versanet.de/~zelgadis/video/VFD_BA63.3gp ~280KB http://home.versanet.de/~zelgadis/video/VFD_BA63.mp4 ~5.3MB I've uploaded my complete configuration-file here: http://home.versanet.de/~zelgadis/txt/lcd4linux.conf So if you nice folks could check either file, see what my display does and then (maybe) help me solve the problem, I'd be grateful. For testing purposes, I've also tried the SimpleLCD-driver with the same result. Also, if I set the Seftest to 1 I don't get a selftest, but an error when I start lcd4linux. Like this: gourry 3.0.1 # lcd4linux -f /etc/lcd4linux/lcd4linux.conf -Fvv Version 0.10.1-CVS starting plugin_cfg.c: Variable halfminute = '30000' (30000) plugin_cfg.c: Variable minute = '60000' (60000) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tack = '100' (100) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tick = '500' (500) lcd4linux.c: initializing driver WincorNixdorf WincorNixdorf: $Revision: 1.2 $ WincorNixdorf: using model 'BA63' WincorNixdorf: using port '/dev/ttyS0' at 9600 baud WincorNixdorf: initiating display selftest sequence WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: read(/dev/ttyS0): EAGAIN WincorNixdorf: selftest initiation failed initializing layout 'L20x2' lcd4linux.c: starting main loop lcd4linux.c: got signal 2 lcd4linux.c: leaving main loop WincorNixdorf: shutting down. WincorNixdorf: closing port /dev/ttyS0 LCD4Linux is running on a fli4l-Router running Kernel 2.4.32. Version is 0.10.1-CVS. Since this is fli4l, I'm unfortunately stuck with this version of LCD4Linux. I'm not into compiling myself... :-/ Any ideas? Any help is appreciated, 'cause I'm at the end of my rope here... Hi, I'm using a 20x4 Text display with an AVR, which works as a simple serial terminal. It works very well, but it seems that I can't assign e.g. 0-20% to ascii-code 0 21-40% to ascii-code 1 41-60% to ascii-code 2 61-80% to ascii-code 4 81-100% to ascii-code 5 while the software in the AVR assigns 0 to a blank block 1 to a _ 2 to a 1/5 full block ... 5 to a full block (in reality, I can assign 7+1(space) user-defined symbols which fits perfectly to the 7 pixel height characters), so I would have a vertical baragraph. I've already a patch to add this widget-type, but it is very ugly, so I would like to have an official solution ;) Thanks, Michael |

Works for me on a USB 20x4 - I prefixed the text in your post with Display USBLCD20x4 { Driver 'LCD2USB' Size '20x4' asc255bug 1 Icons 1 } and replaced the first line in final stanza with # Display 'HD44780-generic' Display 'USBLCD20x4' - otherwise *exactly* as you posted. Maybe try moving the 'Display' stanza to the top? Also - check the driver is valid / installed. Now I want to get the third line to show memory & especially swap (for use on an old machine with only 256M)... BTW: I spotted a missing closing bracket ")" in the 2 lines like this: expression (netdev('eth0', 'Rx_bytes', 500)/1024) ^ ------------------------------------------------/ Works both with and without this though! Hope this is use -- Regards Richard (aka MQ) mailto:sf...@16... |

Hi All, Has anybody used a Matrix Orbital GLK240128-25-WB with LCD4Linux ? I would like a large graphic LCD to fit my MM UFO case, but one that can handle graphic well. Any recommendation gratefully received. TIA -- This message has been scanned for viruses and dangerous content by MailScanner, and is believed to be clean. |

Hi again, Responding to myself as I've now found my problem, not actually related to the configuration at all: The keycodes defined in drv_CF_keypad() in drv_Crystalfontz.c do not match the ones produced by my Crystalfontz CFA635. Attaching a patch that fixes this problem for me. If this is due to some incompatibility between different Crystalfontz models, I guess this will need to be solved in a prettier way. regards / Leif --- lcd4linux/drv_Crystalfontz.c.org 2006-11-11 01:24:26.000000000 +0000 +++ lcd4linux/drv_Crystalfontz.c 2006-11-11 01:47:10.000000000 +0000 @@ -712,27 +712,27 @@ static int drv_CF_keypad(const int num) val = WIDGET_KEY_RELEASED; switch (num) { case 1: - case 8: + case 7: val += WIDGET_KEY_UP; break; case 2: - case 9: + case 8: val += WIDGET_KEY_DOWN; break; case 3: - case 10: + case 9: val += WIDGET_KEY_LEFT; break; case 4: - case 11: + case 10: val += WIDGET_KEY_RIGHT; break; case 5: - case 12: + case 11: val += WIDGET_KEY_CONFIRM; break; - case 7: - case 13: + case 6: + case 12: val += WIDGET_KEY_CANCEL; break; } |

Hi everyone, Anyway, I'm having problems figuring out how to configure lcd4linux to enable/disable backlight on keypad presses. Non-successful configuration file appended to this email.
