[Krename-users] bug report in conection with renaming directories

[<_j...@we...>]

I am trying to rename a directory or directories.
krename will quit when I push the button to select a directory for renaming.

Could you please point me in the right direction for getting more information on this error, so I can report it properly?

A new stable release of KRename is ready for download. 
 
This release includes greatly improved profile support. Additionally an often 
requested feature was added: counters can be reset for every new directory. 
Some smaller bugs got fixed in this version and a few algorigthms got 
optimized to be a little bit faster.

That will work sometimes, but not always, since my songs are sometimes
named differently when I get them. :(

I apologize for being dim, but I can't get Profiles to work, & I can't
find any documentation online. I create a new profile, make the
settings I want in the Find & Replace dialog, run Krename, & then when
I go to another batch of songs, none of the F&R changes I made load.
If I go back to Profiles & try to load the one I created, none of the
F&R changes still load. I'm obviously doing something wrong. Any help
would be appreciated.

Thanks for bringing this problematic to my mind. 
First of all, I think you can avoid the problem at all by using a template 
like this:
"Artist - Album - ## - [*3-]"

Using this (or a similar template) it should be possible to rename all files 
at once. Nontheless, the problem that one could accidently hit Restart 
KRename is still there. I added as quick first solution a separator to the 
menu to make the restart item visiually separated from the rename more items.

First of all, let me say that I really appreciate KRename. I use it pretty 
much constantly, and it's a very, very good program that fills a much-needed 
niche is Linuxland.

That said, I'm concerned about a few changes in 3.0.3, to which I recently 
upgraded (I'm on Debian Sarge & KDE 3.3.2). 

I use KR mainly to rename OGG & MP3 files. I'll rip a bunch, & then use KR to 
change the file names. Some of the recent changes make that process far more 
onerous - & dangerous - than it used to be. Here are my concerns.

1. This is an old bug that I've always noticed: I add a directory of music, 
rename the files, remove those files from the list, add another directory, 
rename, remove. I leave KR open, and go to Konq to move the 2 dir's. 
Immediately after I do so, KR crashes. This happens every time.

2. A UI problem: I often open up 25 files named (& I'm simplifying here) 
something like this:

01-Song.ogg
02-Song.ogg

I want the files to look like this:

Artist - Album - 01 - Song.ogg

To do this, I open all 25 files in KR, click on Insert Part of Filename, 
highlight the "01-" and check the box next to Invert Selection, and then 
press Finish. My files are now named Song.ogg, but that's OK, because I 
immediately choose to rename the same files again by pressing Rename 
Processed Files Again, and this time I change the KR Template to:

[Krename-users] KRename 3.0.3 released

KRename 3.0.3 stable has been released today. Grab it from the downloads 
section while it's hot!

This releases contains many improvements compared to KRename 3.0.2. In 
addition to many bug fixes, it got a new profile manager, randomizing of 
files, sorting of files based on a number in the filename and more advanced 
date formatting. Renaming many files (more than thousand) is now much faster, 
too. The documentation has also been updated for this release.

Indeed. It works now on my laptop running Gentoo Linux (UTF-8). But I can 
still reproduce your problem on my PC running SuSE (KDE 3.3, but UTF-8 too). 

I have noidea what the problem is though. It works with drag and drop and if 
the directory is passed without the -r option. I am currently trying to find 
another KDE application which has similar commandline switches so that I can 
see how the problem is handled there. Do you know any application with 
similar command line switches?

I am nontheless releasing 3.0.3 today. But I will update immediately as soon 
as I know how to fix this bug.

KDE 3.4 uses utf8. Could this cause some problems?

In a Konqueror window I select folder "/tmp/h=F6rspiele/die s=E4ulen der er=
de",=20
choose right mouse click men=FC "Mit krename umbenennen".
Krename starts and come up with an error:
Die Datei oder der Ordner /tmp/sound/h=C3=B6rspiele/die s=C3=A4ulen der erd=
e existiert=20
nicht.

Selecting this folder using the "Hinzuf=FCgen" function is no problem.

Hi all,

I want to release KRename 3.0.3 soon. Just before releasing I want to give 
everyone on the list a chance to test the release first to find any show 
stoppers.

I fixed a grave bug with adding files in this release. Adding should be faster 
now, too. Also KRename should be more reponsive now when creating the real 
time preview while changing the template for more than 1000 files. The 
outdated HTML documentation was finally removed and points now to the PDF 
documentation on the net. And the reload plugin data option was fixed, too.

This is also the chance to mail me rpms or other binary packages for the 3.0.3 
release.

are you aware the fact, that we do NOT list the KDE plugins anymore=20
in the Plugin page. You can access them directly in the "rename"=20
screen...

perhaps a little bit off topic but I'm sure you can give me a hint.

I installed KDE 3.4 beta 1 and it feels awesome.
But when I start krename only a few plugins are listed.

Where are the plugins located? Which rpm includes the mp3-info plugin? Or is 
it KFileMetaInfo? 

Google is not very helpful 8(

growing every day.

you aren't running KDE right now. I have no idea why the C compiler is unable 
to compile executables. Maybe you can find some more help in a debian forum 
or list as I am totally clueless on this matter right now - sorry.

Maybe you want to try the KRename deb that is provided by the kalyxo project.

I am not yet a member of the mailing list, so please cc me with

I am running debian unstable, gnome desktop.

I have tried using alien to morph one of the offered rpm's into a .deb
file.  This succeeded, but the resulting program did not run.

I then tried to compile from source using the tarball available for
download.  I'm no stranger to compiling, though it's not an everyday
habbit, but I have never encountered an error similar to the one I
received from the configure script:

then, to show gcc version and the error, from the config.log file:
