Hello, Dom :) While renaming mp3's recently, I had the problem described in the subject line of this e-mail. It happens when there are a lot of directories, or even when there actually are no directories to load recursively. The only common denomninator seems to be that whenever I choose to add a directory, if I check the box to Add Sub-Directories Recursively, Krename 2.9.2 crashes. I tried 2.9.1, this problem is not present in that version. I tried 2.8.5, same thing, this problem is not present there, either. I tried rebuilding an RPM for 2.9.2, and I still get the crashes. If you say so, I'll try installing 2.9.2 from source. I uploaded the entire output of "strace krename" to the following location: http://www.faith4miracle.org/krename-crash.tar.bz2 I have tried different directories, small and large, it doesn't make any difference. Like I said, it seems to crash just on the basis of the above mentioned box being checked. If I can be of any assistance with this, feel free to let me know. Now I must go to bed :) Steven P. Unfortunatley, I'm pretty much lost other than that. If you get any further information that can help us help you, please let us know :) One thing I just thought of: when I have issues with RPM being completley unresponsive, I run the following command as root, and the problem is always fixed: rm -f /var/lib/rpm/__db.00* This removes the "lock" files that RPM creates. After removing them, RPM is always back to normal for me. Now, this might not explain your original problem, but at least maybe it will help you get Krename off your system, so you can try installing it again :) Steven P. Ulrick Steven P. Hi, The output of rpm -Vp shows that the rpm is installed, but all files seem to be missing. Uninstalling using "rpm -e krename --force --nodeps" should work. I do not know why KRename did not start on your system the first time you tried to use it. Maybe you have the same problem as mentioned in this forum thread: http://www.kbarcode.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=103 I am working on a solution for this problem. Hi, i'm a newbie with a problem I've installed the krename-2.8.5-1rhfc1.i386.rpm with a double click. (I have Fedora Core 1 by RedHat) After the first running of the program, a window asked me for gui interface or integration in Konqueror (i selected Konqueror) Nothing happened, in Konqueror i find nothing If i run the icon of Krename from the menu, a search starts with no results. I've tried to uninstall the rpm by this command: [root@localhost stefano]# rpm -e krename Nothing happens, the terminal don't make anything I've verified if the rpm is installed by this command: rpm -q krename krename-2.8.5-1rhfc1 I've verified the rpm by this command: rpm -Vp krename-2.8.5-1rhfc1.i386.rpm missing /usr/bin/krename missing /usr/share/applnk missing /usr/share/applnk/Utilities missing /usr/share/applnk/Utilities/krename.desktop missing /usr/share/apps/krename missing /usr/share/apps/krename/krename_dir.desktop missing /usr/share/apps/krename/krenameservicemenu.desktop missing /usr/share/apps/krename/logo.png missing /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/changes.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/compilation.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/credits.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/faq.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/index.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/introduction.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/de/krename/using-krename.html missing /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/changes.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/compilation.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/credits.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/faq.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/index.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/introduction.html missing d /usr/share/doc/HTML/en/krename/using-krename.html missing /usr/share/icons/hicolor/32x32/apps/krename.png missing /usr/share/icons/hicolor/48x48/apps/krename.png missing /usr/share/icons/locolor/16x16/apps/krename.png missing /usr/share/icons/locolor/32x32/apps/krename.png missing /usr/share/locale/de/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/es/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/fr/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/it/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/ja/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/nl/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo missing /usr/share/locale/zh_TW.Big5/LC_MESSAGES/krename.mo How can i uninstall the rpm or make it working? Hi, KRename 2.9.2 is out with lots of improvements. Of course this development release> needs your testing. New in this release is a Hungarian translation (others were updated). KRename got faster and many bugs were fixed. To mention one important bug: regular expressions work in find and replace mode again. Tokens can be used recursively now, e.g. [2-4{[dirname]}]. New tokens were added, among them are [length], [user] and [group]. And much more - see for yourself! http://www.krename.net CU Dom -- ********************************************************************** Dominik Seichter - dom...@we... I smoked a little marijuana before that, but I haven't done that in even longer. The entire story behind the colors on my desktop is this: I had once proposed the question: if others can create color schemes for KDE, why can't I? Since the nature of Linux is so configurable, I figured there must be a way to do it myself. Well, when I finally discovered it, I "went to town" Just be glad I don't have one of my gaudy color schemes running right now :) In fact, the next time I treat you to a screen shot, I'll show you one of my ugly ones.... Though all of the above is true, I must say that though I am a really silly person, I am completely safe :) In closing, most importantly, I will get right on the RPM. I should have it done real soon :) Steven P. Ulrick |

Hello Steven, Indeed you found a bug. This bug really has to be fixed as it is very annoying. I fixed it in the new tarball at: http://krename.sourceforge.net/data/krename-2.9.2.tar.bz2 Thanks for noticing this bad behaviour. Could you please create a new rpm for this release? By the way, do you really use those pink and yellow colors on your desktop and _do not_ take drugs?? ;-) CU Dom Am Freitag, 27. Februar 2004 08:12 schrieb Steven P. Hello, Dom :) I think I MAY have found a bug in Krename 2.9.2 Desired behaviour (Up to Krename 2.9.2): Let's say I have 100 files open for renaming, and only 20 are renamed. In the past (up to Krename 2.9.2), the progress window would silently print a list of the files that were not renamed, with no user intervention. Undesired behaviour (Krename 2.9.2): Assuming 100 files open for renaming, and 20 files that are actually renamed, at the end of the renaming you get the same list of files that couldn't (or didn't need to) be renamed. Unfortunately, I also (if I would wade through them) get 80 prompts asking the question that is contained in the screenshot that is located at the following location: http://www.faith4miracle.org/krename-screenshot1.jpg.tar.bz2 In the directory that is reflected in the screenshot, there were 29 files. I used a pattern that none of them contained, so I got what I expected: 29 files that did not need to be renamed. The problem is, I had to click "Ok" 29 times before I got done. This could be a problem when it's more convenient to open an entire directory (or directory tree) than to select the files that actually need to be renamed. Anyway, I hope that I described this clearly. If not, let me know, and I'll be glad to answer any questions you may have. Steven P. Ulrick |

But unfortunately the feature was buggy, so all 50 files got added again to KRename. I fixed this "bug" lately. But now I am not sure wether the old our the intended behaviour is better. I guess your vote will go for the old behaviour :) I think the best will be to support both behaviours. Hello, Dom :) Like the subject line says, I don't know if this is a bug, or a feature that I don't understand. But anyway, here goes: Desired behavior (Former behavior, up until 2.9,1): Let's say you get done renaming a group of files a certain way, and only a few of the files are renamed (because the other filenames don't contain the criteria you were using to rename them.) I used to click on "Rename Files Again", and all of the files that I had been working on would still be there, waiting for me to work on them again. If I started out with 50 files, and only 40 were renamed, I would click on "Rename Files Again", and I would still have 50 files listed and ready for me to continue to rename. Current Behavior: In this scenario, I have some files open, and only a few are renamed. I click on "Rename Files Again", and only the files that were renamed remain listed and ready to have more work done on them. If I started out with 50 files, and only 40 were renamed, only the 40 that were renamed remain listed and ready for me to continue to rename. Please let me know if I have just misunderstood an intended change in behavior :) Anyway, have a Great Day :) Steven P. Ulrick |

Hello, KRename 2.9.1 was released today. If the last release did not compile for you, this is your chance to test KRename again, as many compiling problems were fixed. Additionally, this release contains an improved plugin system. You don't have to enable the mp3 or ogg vorbis plugin anymore. KRename does this for you. The picture plugin finally got a cache and is much faster now. Along with these new features, I made a few other smaller improvements. Please download and test this release and report of course all problems you have. http://www.krename.net CU Dom -- ********************************************************************** Dominik Seichter - dom...@we... Dear krename developers, I wanted to try version 2.9.0 so I downloaded the source rpm and tried "rpm --rebuild ....src.rpm". Below is the error I get: batchrenamer.cpp: In member function `void BatchRenamer::parseSubdirs(data*)': batchrenamer.cpp:812: warning: format not a string literal and no format arguments batchrenamer.cpp: At global scope: batchrenamer.cpp:821: error: cannot declare member function `static QString BatchRenamer::buildFilename(fileentry*, bool)' to have static linkage make[2]: *** [batchrenamer.o] Erreur 1 Note that I'm not subscribed to the list, so if you need to contact me please use my own e-mail address.
