Synchronize with URL never saves any details

    I've got the "sync with url" working, but it doesn't matter which option I choose in the "remember" drop-down, it's always blank next time I open it. That's a huge PITA, not least because the dialog is modal so I have to copy the details out of keepass into a text editor then paste the three values back in to the dialog. I note that the dialog calls itself "open from URL" even though it does actually synchroniZe if I fill in the fields.

    I tried making the installed config file writeable as the docs suggest but that did not help. So I've now got the portable version and that creates not just the documented "KeePass.config.xml" but also a "KeePass.exe.config" that doesn't seem to be mentioned anywhere. Both are writeable, and both have new timestamps after I used the sync tool.

    KeePass.config.xml has these entries:

                <ConnectionInfo>
                    <Path>ftp://ftp.the.internet/passwords.file</Path>
                    <UserName>hey_its_me@the.internet</UserName>
                    <Password>JKHLKasdkjliKJSFYF=</Password>
                    <CredProtMode>Obf</CredProtMode>
                    <CredSaveMode>SaveCred</CredSaveMode>
                </ConnectionInfo>
                ...
          <Association>
                <DatabasePath>ftp://ftp.the.internet/passwords.file</DatabasePath>
                <Password>true</Password>
            </Association>

    What else do I need to do to make the "remember username and password" actually work?

    (Win10 home, recent PC etc)

    thanks for any help.

    If the portable version remembers the details and the installed version does not then you have a config problem with the installed version - portable and installed are the same program.

    Check you have write access to %APPDATA%\KeePass\KeePass.config.xml.
    Rename any KeePass.enforced.config.xml files.

    cheers, Paul

      When I said it doesn't work either way, I meant that neither the portable version or the installed version appear to save the settings, even though the config file suggests that perhaps they just fail to load the settings.

    The solution is a user interface one: you don't use "Synchronize with URL" to use the stored URL, you instead use "Synchronize - Recent Files" to synchronize with a URL. The wording is poor so it took a while to check that option.

    Posting so that hopefully other people can discover the functionality.
