I would have liked to use this application to quit Kaspersky pw manager. I managed to do an export from there and convert it to a CSV as mentioned on a page i found on your website with a lot of bulls*** about and a sample.csv and no possible way to download the plugin. Unfortunately after installing Keepass about 3h ago i am still unable to make it work or import my csv into this application.
I find the info on your website confusing and very very far from user friendly, it seems like you almost need a programmer background or something to make this work. Those people might enjoy it but someone like me who just needs a working application this is a total waste of my precious time

I have tried many different password managers, including popular modern cloud-based ones, but I always come back to KeePass. It is true that KeePass is not as convenient at first as some cloud password managers. But after using it for a while, the workflow becomes normal, and more importantly it builds a more solid and secure habit. In a time when almost everything is moving to the cloud, I really appreciate having a strong offline option where I keep control of my own password database. For me, the biggest positives are: KeePass is fast and lightweight. It works across different systems, including Windows and Linux. The password database is easy to save, back up, export, or move wherever I want — USB drive, SD card, external drive, or cloud storage if I choose. That flexibility removes a lot of frustration compared with some cloud password managers that lock you into their own ecosystem, 2FA flow, extra passwords, or paid features. I also like that KeePass has more functionality than I even use. The settings and plugin ecosystem give a lot of room to grow depending on what the user needs. Another very useful thing is that entries can store more than just passwords. Notes, recovery phrases, extra login details, and other important information can all be kept in the same place. Some “free” cloud password managers make you pay for this kind of basic flexibility, which is frustrating. The design and UI could look more modern, yes. It reminds me a little of older Windows software, maybe even Windows 2000 style. But for me that is not a real problem. The most important thing is that the app does its main job without bugs, lag, or unnecessary noise: it stores passwords safely and helps generate strong new passwords. KeePass does that extremely well. I also really like that KeePass can work as a portable app. That is another big plus. One feature I would love to see more directly included in the future is something like Diceware/passphrase generation built into the app by default, without needing to manually download or add a plugin. A good passphrase is one of the most important parts of protecting computer data, accounts, and email. It would also be nice to have more built-in icon options for entries. When the database grows large, good visual icons can make it faster and easier to find what you are looking for. This is not critical, but it would be a good quality-of-life improvement. Overall, KeePass is still my favourite password manager. Many newer password managers look more modern and colourful, but they still cannot beat this old-school, boring, solid, reliable tool for me. I continue to recommend KeePass to customers when they ask what password manager to use, especially if they want more control and less cloud dependency. My verdict: 5/5. Thank you to the KeePass team. Love and respect for keeping this project alive, useful, and regularly updated.

Reply from KeePass

KeePass Password Safe is a powerful, free, and open-source password manager that keeps your credentials secure using top-level encryption like AES and Twofish. It’s lightweight, portable, and works across Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile platforms. The clean and intuitive menu layout makes it easy to organize entries, generate strong passwords, and access features quickly. Ideal for anyone looking for a secure, no-frills password manager.

KeePass – Simple, Powerful, Cross-Platform KeePass is my go-to password manager. I keep my main database file in a cloud drive, which allows me to access it seamlessly across multiple devices (desktop PC, laptop, mobile) and operating systems (Windows, Debian, Android). Beyond securely managing passwords, KeePass really shines with its auto-type feature. I use it extensively to automate full command sequences in terminal sessions, especially for repetitive tasks. It saves time and reduces errors — an incredibly useful tool for both everyday and technical workflows.

Nice program!!

Very good app! Using the app, in addition to excellent password manager function, to automate some repetitive tasks in SAP, Excel and other tools using the autotype function

Thank you for such a good program.

Semplice, veloce, leggero......ottimo!

Very useful and flexible software. The use is simple and rapid, and the features are many. I found the file import options quite useful, allowing me to quickly move from an old password management software to KeePass.

I have been using KeePass for decades now and have almost nothing but good things to say about it. The only feature I'd like to see that it currently does not have is an option to require the KeePass password when selecting it from the Windows taskbar (after minimization). Everything else is exactly as I would like it to be.

I'm a professional (C++) software developer with 35+ years of experience. I've been using this app for years and have never had a single (known) problem. I also strongly value that this app isn't cloud-based like many of its competitors, which is always a potentially big security risk (no matter how often "professional" reviewers of cloud-based security apps tout their safety, most of whom aren't software developers or security experts). If you read the "professional" reviews of KeePass however you'll sometimes find people who promote the strength of its security ("excellent") but sometimes criticize its design. While there may be more "modern" apps around that can make the experience easier, it doesn't make them more secure. This app is what it is and was designed a long time ago. Expecting the author to redesign it now would be ridiculous. It's not necessary though. The program does its job and from what I've read from people who should hopefully know what they're talking about (security specialists), does it *very* well (from a security standpoint). The design is also more than adequate and that's *my* professional (highly experienced) opinion (and keep in mind that a password manager isn't something that most people are normally using all day long, like a browser or spreadsheet or messenger app - KeePass may be more cumbersome to use than some other apps but it's hardly a showstopper when you're only using it every now and again - no big deal). Moreover, for those who know anything about software development, the program strongly benefits from being around for so long. It's likely far more stable now than most of its peers and that's what you want in any piece of software, let alone one that deals with security. Most software is in a constant state of flux in fact, often rendering it untrustworthy. The program has also been independently audited and no major issues were found (and I've taken a quick look at the official findings myself). It's also apparently endorsed by a lot of reputable organizations. I'm not affiliated with this app in any way, and while I haven't independently reviewed all the endors****ts I've ever read nor audited the code myself (a large undertaking), take it from someone who's been in the coding trenches for a very long time. If reports of this app's solid security are in fact accurate, and every indication shows that it is (though I always remain cautious), then it's something to be greatly valued in a password manager app. Kudos to the author.

My wife and I have been using KeePass for over 12 years and find it to be nothing short of remarkable. Our databases are on USB Flash drives for added security with our backup copies in our bank box and home safe. We have created databases for passwords, inventories, recipes, addresses and much, much more.

I have used KeyPass as my password manager for over 10 years. I will never change to another. I have looked at others because of the company I work for, but they also now use KeyPass. It is absolutely the best and most secure password manager around. I only with I could incorporate 2 factor authentication from Authy. I do use the keyfile as a form of 2-factor but I don't find that as secure as a OTP. Perhaps in some future version this will be offered. In any case, well done!

The best and simplest way to keep secure the numerous password we can have. Regularly updated and a huge list of plugins. Very well done job.

Been using this for years. Great project and takes browser integration add on's. I like the chrome extension: "KeePassHelper Password Manager Helper" extension for KeePass to find and insert credentials, generate passwords, or save new logins without manual copy and paste.

I have been using KeePass with my team for a couple of years now. I rate this application an easy five ***** for its clear features and ease of use.

Definitely one of the best projects for password management. We have been switching to this password manager for several months and the whole process has become incredibly faster. Furthermore, the archives are very safe and transportable

Very convenient and versatile software. Use is easy and immediate and the functions are numerous. I found the file import options very convenient which allowed me to fast migrate from an old password management software to KeePass.

KeePass is an excellent standalone password manager. it's key advantages are: Solid security, Powerful features, High flexibility, Reliable and bug-free experience downsides include: Trigger System is a major weakness, KeePass is a one-man show - you can't submit PR's or participate in project development

Excellent utility.
