The mentioned note is now present on all versions' downloads pages. It may mislead users. MSI installers actually work perfectly on Windows XP for all versions up to 2.34.

The portable version works.
I can reproduce this; the MSI doesn't work on Windows XP (probably caused by Windows Installer not supporting the new .NET detection on XP).
On Windows 7 and higher it works fine, so I've now added a note on the downloads page that the MSI requires at least Windows 7.
