Update on the port status: Batch assistant works and the most of it has been ported. Fanda |

Hello, I started to port Kbarcode to KDE4/QT4 . My branch of Kbarcode compiles succesfully but it does so because only half of the source files are compiled. The other filenames are commented out in src/CMakeLists.txt . So half of the source files have been already ported to KDE4/QT4. You can compile it and run the executable. Barcode generator works and the most of it has been already ported to KDE4/QT4. Label editor does not work. Batch printing does not work. The dialog for importing a csv file works and has been already ported. Configuration dialog works and has been ported. Configuration assistant/wizard works and has been ported. Database support doesn't work correctly in the current state of the port as it is in a "debug/port mode". Meaning that Kbarcode looks like it is connected to a database but it is not. You can download the latest snapshot of Kbarcode on web address gitorious.org/kbarcode-kde4/kbarcode-kde4/commits/master . Click on the button "Download master as tar.gz" and then "Download". (Git adress is git://gitorious.org/kbarcode-kde4/kbarcode-kde4.git .) To compile the snapshot unpack the downloaded tar archive, cd to the unpacked directory and run in terminal on Linux: mkdir build && cd build cmake .. -DCMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX=/home/yourusername/some/path make install The executable that make will create will be in /home/yourusername/some/path/bin/ . In the following label file (which I've also attached), I modified gap_left from 7.14 as shown to 10.14, and modief gap_top from 12.7 to 14.7. According to my understanding, this should have shifted the image 3mm right and 2mm down, but it appears to have had NO effect. Please respond if anyone knows how to get the effect I'm after. It seems odd and possibly conflict prone to be able to both specify an Avery label time, and to also seemingly specify everything geometrically. I was hoping though, that I might be able to specify the Avery label and then use geometric parameters to make minor adjustments. For some reason, no data is being imported into KBarcode for batch printing from my csv file. The two variables being used are $ID and $Name. Following is a sample of the data directly from the csv from the file. Any thoughts? Hi Thomas, There are several commandline options and also a DCOP interface. I once had an example around to kick KBarcode off from a batch script using DCOP. As I am traveling right now and the example is on a harddisk at home, I cannot send it to you for the next two weeks You could try to play with the KDE3 tool kdcop to examine KBarcode's DCOP interface and how to start a batch print using this. Google will come up with some tutorials for dcop/kdcop You can also take a look at our handbook at: http://gentoo.llarian.net/distfiles/kbarcode-2.0.0.pdf Section 7.8 explains the commandline options. Maybe these are enough for you. Just to make sure everything fits, I have started working with Avery A4/C2050 video spine. So, Label Editor -> Insert barcode. Dbl-click on the barcode. Properties: - barcode settings: static (only available option) - encoding type : codabar - value: insert data field -> [serial] - advanced: tried both sequence enabled and sequence not enabled - display text: unchecked - margin, scale and rotation: unchanged - crop: 40% At this point the barcode shows up with plenty of space. Randy -- No worries on the timing, I think we all understand busy schedules and being stretched too thin. Here's a few notes for you. I'm on holiday right now, if no one else responds by the time i return, I'll put together some more notes for you. The red X you're seeing can be due to the barcode format you've selected, the shape and ratio may be wrong size or it doesn't have complete data and won't have until it receives data from the Articles table in the database. You'll need to see what format of barcode data your scanner supports before you choose a format. a simple format is Code 39 [GNU Barcode] and most barcode scanners support it. The [serial] tag goes into the Values field in the properties of the barcode and it will be populated as you work your way thru the batch print dialogue. Randy -- Have your tried using the [serial] tag instead of sequence? As you're processing them for printing, it will ask you what number you want to start on (1001 or whatever you choose) and it allows you to choose the number of characters that show by leaving leading zeros in case you want more than 4 characters. The next step is the amount of advance with each one - the default is 1, fine in this case. Heya, I am trying to generate a bunch of bar codes all on 1 page. I think I am coming close from a couple of angles but cannot seem to get to the last step, even with the docs and the mail archives. I am using KBarcode 2.0.7 installed w/o any databases ATM. My current needs are very simple). For this I just need to do a 1-time run. I brought up the barcode generator. I'm doing a GNU barcode. I enable sequence, iterate over numbers, step by 1, start at 1000. When I click on generate, I just get the red X when it cannot generate a barcode. I can put in "1000" and it generates the barcode, but I need >200 of these. I then messed around with the label generator. I did an Avery A4, custom label. The custom label has width 20mm, height 10mm, h gap 20mm, v gap 10 mm, top gap 3 mm, left gap 3 mm. This gives me 290 bar codes on 1 page which is perfect for what we need. But I cannot seem to figure out how to now make each of these labels the next in a sequence. Am I simply using the tool incorrectly, or have I not understood the documentation and am missing steps? -- Randy (sc...@ea...) 765.983.1283 <*> The beasty cometh |

Hi Dirk, Simply put pdf417encode into your path and KBarcode should find it. Unfortunately, I do not know if KBarcode will work together with recent version of pdf417encode, as I did not have time to really work on KBarcode for the last 2 or 3 years. This might also be the answer for your second question. libdmtx was not available when I started KBarcode and I did not have time to add any new barcode backends in the past. You might try to add support for it yourself easily though, if it can output images. Hi, I want to resume an old post from 2009 (see below) and have two questions: Question 1: How do I install the pdf417_enc barcode backend into kbarcode? I have read kbarcode-2.0.0.pdf, looked at http://sourceforge.net/projects/pdf417encode, downloaded the pdf417encode source, decompressed it and read its README but I don't know what to do now. Can somebody please point me in the right direction? Question 2: The DataMatrix symbology is - according to the kbarcode website - only available with the TBarcode backend, which is (beside the demo) not for free. Is this some kind of legal issue why there is no free kbarcode backend for DataMatrix or is it simply the only backend known to the developers that supports DataMatrix? The question arose to me because there is the GPL library libdmtx (http://sourceforge.net/projects/libdmtx) that can produce and scan DataMatrix. Thanks in advance. Hi all! I have been quite busy lately, but I think I will have some time for porting tomorrow again. I am currently working on porting code based on: - QTable - QHBox, QVBox - QListView - QSQLCursor Its not so easy to say how much work is left, but a view days of full time work are required at a bare minimum, I think. Best regards, Robert |

Hello! I am new to this list and have some questions. If I print a barcode 39 to a label brother 29x90 mm I am not able to center the barcode and the printingquality is not so good. How can I adjust the print so it fits to the label and center it and how can I prejudice the quality? And what is the password to connect to the database sqlite? Kind regards Andreas |

I am glad you are ok with publishing the port on gitorious. I did it in this very moment. You can find it on: http://gitorious.org/kbarcode-kde4/kbarcode-kde4 I successfully ported the dialogs in the latest commit. Best regards, Robert |

Hi Dom! As requested, I inform about progress. I started porting today, the kde porting guide is quite helpful. I already managed to port some stuff, I will publish the project on gitorious as soon as possible. At the moment it seems to be an absolutely manageable task, but lets see. :-) I ported the KWizard based stuff to KAssistantWidget, I also followed the suggestion to rename all occurrences of wizard with assistant, including the configuration entry for the wizard, so this change will break current user settings, is this a big issue? I also started porting the KDialogBase based classes to the new classes KDialog and KPageDialog, at the moment I struggle a bit with the plainPage() method, as I am currently not completely sure what this method does and how to replace it, but I think I am close to figuring it out. Hi Robert, If you prefer git, I am of course fine with it. Choose the tool that suits you best. If you could publish them on gitorious, I think it would be even easier for others to follow you. It would be nice though, if you could keep the mailinglist informed about your progress. Maybe we can also help sometimes. Good luck! Hi Dom! Thanks for the fast answer. I thought of simply tracking my changes via git and maybe publish them on gitorious, as there are plans to move kde to gitorious, this might not be such a bad idea and it would ease contribution a little. Merging the changes back to svn, should not be a problem either. What do you think? Anyways, thanks for your support, I already checkout out the source and will start as soon as I have a free evening :-) Best regards, Robert |

Hi Robert, Only little progress has been made since the last thread on the mailinglist. Therefore, I would be really happy, if you could join the project and help a bit with porting. Basically you have to check out the trunk, try to compile it and fix any stuff that does not compile. Maybe you would like to send a small patch first and I can give you SVN access later if you want. If you have further questions, do not hesitate to ask. Best regards, Dom -----Ursprüngliche Nachricht----- Von: Robert Klotzner <rob...@gm...> Gesendet: 02.04.2010 14:52:54 An: kba...@li... Hi! I followed the thread: kbarcode with kde4, what is the current state? I am a rather experienced C++ programmer and I recently got acquainted with qt4, so I think I could help with porting. Best regards, Robert |

Hi, Thanks for this change! I commited it, as it should be fine. Though I do not think this was an error, the line was prefixed with "warning" using my compiler. A warning is dangerous and ugly, too, so it should be fixed sometimes and that is why your change is great. For the first porting issues I would concentrate on real errors though. I usually start with the first error, as you will make progress easier this way. But maybe this is only my personal style. While committing your change, I fixed a few ugly issues which are maybe very C++ specific. So it compiles a bit further now and I hope these changes will help you.
