[Jython-dev] Q: how to run cleanup method when interpreter exits?

Hi Folks,

We love Jython. We're trying to provide some functionality to our users that allows them to start a Jython interpreter, user our system (by instatiating a class), then quit. However, we need to have a cleanup method run when the interpreter exits. Is there a way to do this? THanks.

[Jython-dev] where to find select.py for telnetlib.py?

Why don't you run the script directly with the execfile() function in 
PythonInterpreter? that is probably a lot easier

Can you tell me the end of line symbols that are associated with IF/While statements.

Hmm, what is pyunit.py? I cant't find anything with that name in my
CPython directories.

We have already decided that unittest.py will be included in the next
release.

You can try to tell the installer that Tru64 is a unix with the -f
option:

Yes, it is seems to be a MS-only issue. Your small example made it a lot
easier to track down (it is the same problem that have prevented the use
of jview with jythonc). A fix have been commited to CodeCompiler.java.

I was not aware of the problem. It is caused by a bug in java1. I have
added a workaround to zlib.py.

Maybe the problem is that Jython uses its own ClassLoader, and WebStart
uses its own ClassLoader too. Maybe Jython expects the classes used in
the script to reside in the ClassPath. Because WebStart uses its own
ClassLoader, the classes aren't in the ClassPath, the ClassPath contains
only two JNLP specific Jars.

Any chance you could fit my suggested patch for allowing
python files to be imported from the classloader?

I'm working on integrating ant and jython more closely,
and this patch would help. Right now accessing jython from
ant requires you to add jython.jar to your ant/lib directory
and add all the standard modules to ant/lib/Lig (that's
the ugly part).

I'd love this to get into 2.1!

For instance pyunit.py could be a valuable addition, some other stuff too. 
I'll make a comparision between CPython and Jython and use the tests to see 
which can be included AS IS.

BTW could you tell me if xreadlines.xreadlines(somehting) should return a 
PyObject or a PyList

It looks to me that making a for x in xreadlines.xreadlines(somehting)  
requires it to be a PyList, or am I wrong? Whan it is not a PyList is getting 
AttributeError with __getitem()__ missing but not with PyList. Or is it 
enough to export a method list?

I made already a xreadlines module, which is passing the test in CPython, 
however I'm reading everything at the begining which is probably not good for 
interactive streams, i.e. sys.in. Any opinion about that?

Checkout the installer/liftoff.filelist file for a list of modules which
will be included in a release.

When the module pass the testscript from CPython or when somebody says
that the module is usefull even when it doesn't pass the test.

Me too. I have been way to busy and jython have suffered for a while.

The xreadlines module is AFAIK last of the modules that we to be 2.1
compatible. The initial version of xreadlines doesn't have to be any
faster then using file.readlines(). I want it mostly for the API.

Patches to some of the bugs will also be very helpfull.

This sounds to me like a indentation problem.=20
maybe the file you are reading has mixed tabs and spaces or something
like that.

OTOH maybe the runsource is not the best thing to do. Why don't you use
push, or directly execfile?

[Jython-dev] IF/While statement question

I'm using Jython from a PC and Window NT. I do not run Jython from the command Shell I'm importing the following classes in order to run Jython scripts:

 PythonInterpreter;
 InteractiveInterpreter;
 InteractiveConsole

I'm reading in the Jython script, it is read line by line using the following:

The Jython file is executed, line by line via the interpreter using the method runsource().

I'm experiencing a problem with IF and WHILE statements. The interpreter does not like the symbol "\n". Obviously there is other symbols to show that a jython line is associated with the IF statement. Also there is probably a symbol which indicates that if/while statement has ended.  Can you tell me the end of line symbols that are associated with IF/While statements.

Here are two scripts I ran with my Java program, the output is shown below. I also ran the following 2 scripts with Jython on the command shell and they worked ok: 
 
class example:
    x = int(1)
    y = int(1)
    while x < 5 :  
        x = x + 1
    print x

output = 2 but should be 5.
class example:
    x = int(1)
    y = int(2)
    if x == y :  
        print 'X and Y have the same value'
    else :
        print 'X and Y are different'

output = 	X and Y have the same value
		X and Y are different
Also the following syntax error is outputted.
Traceback (innermost last):
  (no code object) at line 0
  File "<input>", line 1
	    else :
	    ^
SyntaxError: invalid syntax

[Jython-dev] Py reporting to System.err

Hi

I noticed that some messages like *sys-package-mgr*: processing new jar and 
certain exceptions are being reported directly in the Py class at the line 
1586 in the maybeWrite function as

	}
}

However this behavior creates some problems since some exceptions are not 
reported in the interpreter to the err output stream. I don't see any way to 
modify this behavior so to get those exception reported to the right place. 
Is this a design feature or bug? Is it going to be changed?

I'm writing a little utility that will run a Jython script and when it
catches an error it will open an editor and jump to the line number that
contains the offending script. I'm starting with a Java application and am
correctly catching a forced example exception. Jython gives the exception a
PyException object. From PyException how may I get a PyTraceback object, so
I may get the line number from tb_lineno?
