my setup is as follows:
WinDOS 8
jEdit 4.5.1
java 1.7.0_12
I connect with ssh (or better: plink from putty) to a jumpbox with a dynamic tunnel listening on port 8080
I configured this tunnel as a Socks Proxy in jEdit
When I try to connect to any host available just through the jumpbox, using my private key, jEdit doesn't even ASK me for the passphrase of the key and finally times out.

How can I debug this to provide more information?

Did you generate the ssh key with puttygen?

Current workaround is to create the key pair from linux with ssh-keygen
