Hi First of all, I would like to say that the new dialog sounds good but maybe it could have come about in a more organized way. I have been keeping up with this thread (new file dialog box ) and I have to think that if this open source project was more organized with a published ToDo list. A list of new features and improvements, showing priorities of each item that maybe code or program functionality would not be duplicated between plugins and the jEdit core as it is now. Maybe the jEdit user community could get to vote for the items in the ToDo list which would be used to set priorities of the work to be done. This brings up another point. Jext is another java editor which is very similar to jEdit and uses a lot of the same source code. Both are great editors but evolving down different paths. I guess I don't understand why all this effort can't be combined to produce more and better features in a more timely fashion for one editor. I work in an engineering dept. We work on large scale projects which are very organized. The work is prioritized, scheduled, and assigned to various members of the dept. Design reviews allow progress to be monitored as well the quality of the work. Maybe some derivative of this project management can be applied to the jEdit open source project. I hope I didn't hurt anyone's feelings but I wanted to express my opinion since I think jEdit has the possibility of being the best editor available. I will try to use code from those >plugins whenever possible. will it be dockable/holdable? if not, i dont really see how quickfile would be obsolete. one thing i would like to mention also is a "problem" i have had with quickfile (in regards to you using quickfile code). i mount our fileserver from my house, simply mapping a drive, and when i try to open a directory in quickfile from that file server, it takes *forever* if not basically freezing jEdit. but if i just browse that drive with the file chooser, its fine and doesnt have any problems. i dont know if there is any way for anyone to replicate this problem, but if the new file chooser implements some of quickfiles code, this may also happen with it. ____________________________ ///o-o\\\ Jamie LaScolea Interface Design Engineer earthcars.com, Inc. http://www.earthcars.com http://careers.earthcars.com -- ----------------------------------------------- jEdit Developers' List jEd...@li... http://lists.sourceforge.net/mailman/listinfo/jedit-devel |
