Funnily enough, using the sun1.3 jdk the fonts are > also improved, especially the italic ones. i just tried this combination: XFree86 4.0.1, TrueType fonts, and Sun JDK 1.3fcs. i saw the same results as my previous test: no difference whatsoever (i even had another person take a look this time to confirm). perhaps it has to do with screen bit depth? i really don't think that anti-aliasing should have any effect on anything before XFree86 4.0.2 (the release to which libXft was added). snake oil! p'shaw! -md |
