I guess it was the "ultimate goal" of adding this feature to PV.

But it requires more changes to PV (and possibly also jEdit) than I was
ready to make.
Currently, there is interoperability between Mac and Linux but not between
Windows and the other platforms.
But the variable prefixes still help you move from one windows machine to
another.
