Mario, I encountered the same problem (jEdit mode directory protected) under Windows 7. Actually as administrator you do have the necessary privileges, but you would have to change permissions of that directory. There is a way of doing this without tampering with the install directory: use your settings directory, which is totally under your control. Broadly the procedure is: Copy the installation ObjectRexx.xml and catalog files to your settings\mode directory where they can be modified (the moved versions will override the ones in the installation directory) and modify ObjectRexx.xml as Dale has described. In the catalog file remove all entries except the one for mode ObjectRexx.
