I just did a fresh install of Ubuntu 12.04. I really didn't think about the fact that there was no jave installed before I went here http://www.jedit.org/index.php?page=download to install jEdit. I was surprised to see that as part of the installation process openjdk was installed. If I remember correctly jEdit is not supported on openjdk. I don't know how Ubuntu's package system works so maybe nothing can be done about automatically installing openjdk. However, couldn't there be a warning on the website or a popup during installation saying it would be best if Oracles java was installed first? I know if I had been paying attention I would have seen openjdk in the list of packages to install before answering yes, but I wonder how many times this happens to others. Regards, Jim |
