Hi David, Ubuntu is very restrictive with updating versions that are no security updates. We have no control over what they put to their official repository. You have three options of installing a newer version of jEdit. 1. Do not use the jEdit from the official Ubuntu repository but use or own Debian repository. From there you will always get the latest stable release at the same time the other installers are released. Instructions for this can be found at the download page: http://jedit.org/index.php?page=download&platform=unix#option_two 2. Download one of the released or daily built Debian packages from the website and install it manually. Download Links for this are also present on the same Download page. 3. Uninstall the Debian package and use the Java installer to install jEdit. The download link for this is also present on the same Download page. I personally favor the first option.
