Category: None Group: None Status: Closed Resolution: Wont Fix Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Assigned to: Jarek Czekalski (jarekczek) Summary: Cannot Paste From Jedit to Gnome Terminal (Ubuntu 12.04) Initial Comment: I cannot copy text and paste it into Gnome Terminal. But, I can copy text and paste it into gedit. I can also highlight text in Jedit, then middle click in the Terminal and the highlighted text will be pasted. Very strange. Jedit 4.5.1 Ubuntu 12.04 LTS java version "1.6.0_24" OpenJDK Runtime Environment (IcedTea6 1.11.1) (6b24-1.11.1-4ubuntu2) OpenJDK 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.0-b12, mixed mode) ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2012-05-07 10:01 Message: I don't think it is a bug in jEdit or OpenJDK, because I am using the exact same version of java and I can not reproduce this problem in KDE with Konsole. I think it is a bug in your particular GNOME setup. Chances are you have another program, or some strange settings active, that is interfering with the operation of the clipboard. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Jarek Czekalski (jarekczek) Date: 2012-05-07 09:53 Message: Conner, you request much from us. I asked you for one thing, to make a simple experiment with java sample application. You didn't do it. Until you do that experiment please don't comment on this entry. Thanks for workarounds, maybe we'll include them in a faq or something. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2012-05-07 09:41 Message: Closed?! Sorry guys and girls, but are you saying there's a bug in OpenJDK? I'm happy to have found a workaround, but to make a Java product that doesn't work with http://openjdk.java.net/ it's kind of shortsighted. Who's going to fix this? Java: Write once bug reports everywhere. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2012-05-07 06:26 Message: PS: I can make this work if I: 1) Purge OpenJDK $ sudo apt-get purge openjdk-\* icedtea-\* icedtea6-\* 2) Install Oracle Java * http://www.webupd8.org/2012/01/install-oracle-java-jdk-7-in-ubuntu-via.html This is unfortunate considering that OpenJDK is the official Java SE 7 reference implementation [1], but there you have it. This bug affects multiple people and spans multiple versions of Ubuntu, KDE user in comment #4 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jedit/+bug/347308 I have been using Jedit on Ubuntu for months, copy pasting just fine. It stopped working when I upgraded to 12.04 and changed to OpenJDK. Are you able to paste into GT from gedit? 2. Is Jedit still active when you try to paste from it? It must be. 3. Please try to copy text from oracle sample app: http://docs.oracle.com/javase/tutorial/uiswing/components/textfield.html (click Launch). Does it work? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2012-05-03 09:16 Message: I think this is a bug in Gnome or gnome-terminal. I can not reproduce this in KDE with Konsole. What happens if you run Konsole or rxvt from inside gnome? do you have the same problem? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100588&aid=3523260&group_id=588 |
