I have tried: 1. make sure that defaults are not set for whitespaces 2. open a text document 3. from the plugins menu, choose to show space (in whitespaces) See attached screenshot where the plugins menu is choosen (for the second), spaces is selected but not shown in the document. Setting defaults changes this though. Follow-up to ID: 2928387. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Jarek Czekalski (jarekczek) Date: 2012-01-08 00:59 Message: This issue is in my opinion solved in svn. How about releasing a new version of the plugin? Changelog needs updating then. I know we stopped at some point and couldn't find agreement on some things, but I use svn version from this time and am happy with it. So I suggest a release now. By the way I signal, that I use both menu checkboxes and a new option pane, so I wouldn't like to loose neither. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Sergey Ushakov (s-n-ushakov) Date: 2011-11-20 01:07 Message: Looks like this is not a problem of the "WhiteSpace" plugin, but the one of "Mac OS X Support" one (and/or maybe some other UI plugins). I started recently with jEdit 4.4.2 with all main settings by default on Mac OS X Lion and Java 1.6.0_29-b11-402-11M3527. So I got "Mac OS X Support" 1.2 and "WhiteSpace" 1.0.1. WhiteSpace plugin looked broken completely (no complaints, but no visible effect too). But my attention was caught by some controversies in different posts on the topic for the last year or two. Some participants state that the plugin is working, others state it is broken. So my idea was that the problem may be in something different. UI was the first guess. I've changed the look & feel to Metal and got everything working. With Nimbus and CDE/Motif it is working too. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: roeme (real_clang) Date: 2010-08-25 02:19 Message: I'd like to have this fixed as well. Unfortunately, my schedule is clogged up too much to prepare a patch myself... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shlomy Reinstein (shlomy) Date: 2010-08-03 23:21 Message: Regarding maintenance, I don't mind doing these changes. I also found these things annoying, but since no one reported a problem, I thought they were not worth touching. I'll think of an improved interface which will be simpler for users. If you like, you are welcome to make these modifications yourself; I think the original developers of the plugin no longer work on it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Schwenn (rschwenn) Date: 2010-08-02 14:04 Message: I agree that it isn't very intuitive to operate. Many users have already trapped into the same problems. Nevertheless, all works as designed for me: The Whitespace plugin is working on a per buffer basis. The menu actions effect only the current buffer while the plugin options are defaults and do only effect newly opened buffers. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dale Anson (daleanson) Date: 2010-08-02 13:19 Message: There are a few problems here, I think. First is that the UI is not intuitive. It is not at all obvious that you have check "Show spaces" AND one or more of "Show leading spaces", "Show inner spaces", or "Show trailing spaces". It would probably be more clear if checking "Show spaces" also checked the other 3 choices automatically. Or better, just leave out the "Show spaces" choice altogether. I don't see that it has any real purpose. The second is that the plugin options and the menu do not work together. If I go to the plugin options, check "Show spaces", "Show leading spaces", "Show inner spaces", and "Show trailing spaces", then click OK, no spaces are shown in the text area and the menu items for these are still unchecked. Further, checking items in the menu does not result in the corresponding items in the plugin options being checked. The third problem that I'm aware of is that the choices don't take effect right away. Once I get the right things checked and get the spaces to display in the text area, I can uncheck all the 'show space' checkboxes, and the spaces are still showing in the text area. It seems to take some checking and unchecking of the boxes to get them to go away. Is anyone actually maintaining this plugin now? It looks like there were a couple of bug fixes a year or so ago, but no real work on it since 2006. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Robert Schwenn (rschwenn) Date: 2010-08-02 11:40 Message: The Whitespace plugin distinguishes between "leading", "inner" and "trailing" spaces, and it lets You decide which of them You want to see. So, if "Show spaces" is disabled, no spaces are shown, and if "Show spaces" is enabled, ONLY the checked types of spaces are shown - but You have checked none... ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=565475&aid=3038126&group_id=588 |
