Category: editor core >Group: None >Status: Closed >Resolution: Wont Fix Priority: 7 Private: No Submitted By: Carl Yamamoto-Furst (cheruvim) Assigned to: Nobody/Anonymous (nobody) Summary: Untitled buffer lost when no others and C+n pressed Initial Comment: This bug is related to https://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1984000&group_id=588&atid=100588 When there are no other buffers, and C+n is pressed all data in the Untitled buffer is lost. I would think that if the Untitled buffer is not empty, opening a file should not erase the data that is there. To recreate this bug, you should do the following... 1) close all files 2) type something 3) open another file What ever you typed in that buffer should be lost. I think this behavior goes against what an editor is for in that what you input should be preserved at all costs, or at least a dialog should appear asking you to save it. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: Carl Yamamoto-Furst (cheruvim) Date: 2011-11-14 13:35 Message: Apologies. I didn't see that last comment.. That did work! thanks so much. I'm pretty sure I did and the buffer got erased. However, since that first time, I am unable to reproduce.. So I'm closing this issue.. thanks very much for the prompt response. Problem was in the settings. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2011-11-14 13:34 Message: you can "create a new buffer" or "open an existing file". There is no such thing as "open a new file". I don't understand what your issue is anymore. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Carl Yamamoto-Furst (cheruvim) Date: 2011-11-14 13:27 Message: CORRECTION: This is happening when opening a new file, not creating a new Untitled buffer. so C+n above should be changed to C+o. Thanks, C. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2011-11-14 09:51 Message: For the first issue, if you do not want this to happen, go to global options - saving and backup and un-check the "never mark untitled buffers dirty", and you will not lose data in untitled buffers. If you have it checked, you should not care about what is lost in untitled buffers. For the second issue, if you type something in a new untitled buffer and then do "save" it will ask you for a filename. Does it not do that for you? Do you provide a filename to save? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Carl Yamamoto-Furst (cheruvim) Date: 2011-11-14 09:39 Message: Also when no other files are open and you type something and then save, your data gets erased.. to reproduce: 1) open jedit 2) close all files File->close all 3) type something. 4) save it. Bad editor.. bad.. you're supposed to save the data not destroy it.. :) Anyway, this is pretty serious if you open up jedit for the first time and have all your work erased when you save. I would recommend a 7 or 8 priority.
