I tried your extra word characters below and they work fine for me. If I use any of the lines below, then typing a word with a dash in it, e.g. "sjddf-dfdfd", putting the caret after the word, and clicking Ctrl+Left Arrow brings me to the beginning of the word (without the dash in the extra word characters, it would bring me to the position after the dash).
