I just looked at the commit log of ConfigurableFoldHandler, and indeed
you're right. This used to work in the past, and broke in the
following commit, that took place on 29 Dec 2006: Patch # 1604585 -
updated Configurable Fold Handler for 4.3pre4+
This patch changed the way the mode was derived from the buffer, and
since then it stopped working (or maybe 4.3pre4 changed the way it
should be derived, and it was later changed again?). I don't think I
took part in jEdit development back then.
