Category: None Group: None >Status: Closed Resolution: Fixed Priority: 5 Private: No Submitted By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Assigned to: Seph M. Soliman (scarlac) Summary: Inconsistent Cut/Paste key bindings on OS X Initial Comment: Greetings. I'm using pre13 on OSX 10.4.11. There are inconstancies in OS X cut/paste key bindings, as reported several times in the past and erroneously closed IMHO, read on. After some research, it appears that Cut/Paste key bindings are defined by the Swing look and feel. * If I use Mac OS X L&F, everything works as expected. (Unfortunately, said look is ugly. I prefer to use metal.) * If I use CDE/Motif L&F the CMD keys works in the main Jedit editor window, and *no* key combinations work in the Find window (and similar windows). * If I use Metal L&F, the CMD keys work in the main Jedit editor window, and the ctrl keys work in the Find window (and similar windows). So, I have three different look and feels and three different behaviors. To brush this off as "Apple's problem" seems a bit obtuse. Especially since 1 of the 3 offered choices doesn't even work. The docs explaining this are here, scroll down to Accelerators (Keyboard Shortcuts): http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Java/Conceptual/Java14Development/07-NativePlatformIntegration/NativePlatformIntegration.html Suggestions: * Offer an improved look and feel for OS X which correctly handles key bindings as the current look is hurting. Maybe Quauqua (http://www.randelshofer.ch/quaqua/index.html)? Maybe improve the current look to make it look more like metal? * Unbind CMD keys in Jedit window and force the user to work ctrl everywhere to offer some sort of consistency. * Your suggestions here? Thank you for your time. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- >Comment By: SourceForge Robot (sf-robot) Date: 2008-12-11 02:20 Message: This Tracker item was closed automatically by the system. Downloaded the plug-in, works for me! I'm looking forward to it being officially included in the next release. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Seph M. Soliman (scarlac) Date: 2008-11-27 09:40 Message: Hey Conner It has been implemented in the Mac OS X plugin. Still not released yet, but you can download a beta from here: http://mijav.dk/download/MacOSX.jar I am using it and it seems to do it's job very nicely. If you experience any problems please send me the issues. Regards, Seph ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2008-11-26 21:41 Message: I just downloaded Jedit pre16 and it doesn't appear that the fix was implemented? For instance, I can't cut & paste in the "Search & Replace" dialogue unless I use the Control key instead of the desired Command key combination. When can we expect this fix in Jedit? Where is the fix in the CVS/SVN? Help? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Seph M. Soliman (scarlac) Date: 2008-08-30 22:02 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=831311 Originator: NO It has been implemented with minor changes and fixes to the upcomming new mac os x plugin. Regards, Seph ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Seph M. Soliman (scarlac) Date: 2008-08-24 13:52 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=831311 Originator: NO Conner (and Alan) It looks good. I have only minor changes to the patch. However - I will try to see if we can include it the new Mac OS X plugin since I feel it's a very OS X specific feature that a plugin should supply. This will also enable us to test it more separately. I will contact you as soon as I get it working :) Regards, Seph ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2008-08-23 16:12 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=327686 Originator: YES Just to say that I have been using this patch since the day I submitted it. I used jEdit every day for several hours a day, I have had no problems. I went ahead and patched my own version of pre15 a few minutes ago. Everything seems fine. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Alan Ezust (ezust) Date: 2008-08-11 20:44 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=935841 Originator: NO scarlac, can you please review this? moving to patches tracker. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2008-05-19 03:14 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=327686 Originator: YES I went ahead and fixed this. Patch is mirrored here: http://sourceforge.net/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=1966713&group_id=588&atid=300588 Good times. File Added: Jedit.diff ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Dac Chartrand (conner_bw) Date: 2008-05-18 19:57 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=327686 Originator: YES PS: A few more comments after testing pre14: * Inconsistent Cut/Paste key bindings on OS X remains * Using Mac OS X native look and feel is significantly more sluggish than metal on my iMac G5. Also clunky i.e. not as polished * Tango icons with metal looks great! Metal/Tango look and feel with consistent Cut/Paste key bindings would be fantastic.
