Initial Comment:
I use jEdit 4.3pre6, with Sun JRE 1.5.0_06. The "Save
as" dialog (and also the "Save a copy as" dialog) does
not accept keyboard input. I cannot specify the
filename to save, nor can I close the dialog with the
keyboard.

Strangely, the "save as" dialog works fine for me now, with
the original version of jEdit4.3pre6. I did not need to
download your svn build. I can no longer reproduce the problem.
As far as I can tell, the only changes made to my system
since the time I had this problem are the addition and
removal of jEdit plugins. Can plugins interfere with the
function of the "save as" dialog? I don't keep track of the
list of plugins that I use, so I can't revert back to the
list I had back then and check it.

This is not a duplicate of bug 1545172 - it has nothing to
do with the focus. The "save as" dialog doesn't accept user
input at all. For example:
1. You cannot use <tab> to switch between dialog widgets
2. Even after setting the focus to the filename field using
the mouse, you still cannot enter the filename there.
3. You cannot use <esc> or <enter> to close the dialog.

I didn't try the SVN version since I don't know how to do it.

Duplicate. See bug# 1545172
Fixed in subversion. Please try that one out to see if you
have this problem still.
