I should have tried pre9 before upgrading to java 1.5 as I now get the installer actually open a window where before only got errors in a console .. output: java -jar jedit42pre9install.jar Date: 2004-02-20 14:31 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=454880 Unfortunately I do not have a spare system to go re-installing windows XP on ... however every time I upgrade java I make sure to completely remove the previous version first including removing all relevant environment variables etc etc. As this install of Windows XP was of SP1 maybe there is an issue caused by the Microsoft VM ... though the java command always refers to suns java onces it is installed. Double click of the installer has always failed either by not showing up at all or having some error I don't remember. If I get a chance I'll try installing jedit on someone elses workstation and see if it is just my machine or not. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Kevin Williams (kevinwilliams) Date: 2004-02-11 02:00 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=760805 Not everyone has this problem. Having used Windows daily for over a decade, my guess is that Windows is not functioning properly. Does the installer run if you double-click on the file? Do you have other JDKs installed? So many things could be out-of-sync that it's tough to say. If you have a machine you can do a clean WindowsXP install on, try installing either Sun's 1.4.2_03 production JDK/JRE or the beta 1.5.0 JDK/JRE. You should be able to double-click on the installer and have no problems. You might try running WinXP with SP1a on your clean box. I believe SP1a is the one with NO JAVA SUPPORT. This would make sure that the Sun JDK/JRE you install is the only way Java can run. Hope that helps! ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Comment By: Shane (squindler) Date: 2004-02-09 11:32 Message: Logged In: YES user_id=454880 Probably would have helped to say what the "bug" actually is huh ... seems all the 4.2pre series have needed to be installed from the root C:\ on at least WindowsXP ...I don't use any other windows so I can't tell you about any others ... my slackware, gentoo and mac are all fine though installing from anywhere i put the installer. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can respond by visiting: https://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&atid=100588&aid=893127&group_id=588 |
