I don't know the code (for all I know there's a property to control what attribute shows up in the structure browser), but I think it only shows 'id'. In SGML/XML you can specify an attribute that uniquely identifies the element, and in practice it's almost always called (and some tools assume it to be) 'id'. Given that you'll be using it to refer to elements, it's a good thing to have in the structure browser and XML Insert panels. I'd guess (again, don't know) that the author of the structure browser might be wary of turning it into an XML-spy-style attribute spreadsheet, so 'id' is probably all you'll get.
