Hello! Thanks for your postings on this thread. I recently asked the same question in a somewhat different way in a different forum. It seems to me that people have two different kinds of requirements: (1) Some people want to see multiple files at the same time, each file in a distinct window. (2) Some people want to see different parts of one file in (or through) one window, or perhaps in different windows, I'm not sure. I'm a person of the type (1), and it seems Eric is also. But there seems to be a lot of emphasis on type (2) in JEdit, and this is leading to confusion. Let me try to make the question more clear: Is there a way to set JEdit so File-->Open _always_ opens a new window?
