If Ultraedit used that technology I imagine that there is no better = way. IE opens notepad with the htm file in its cache. *.htm files are = associated with IE, so it cannot use the standard windows association. It doesn't = use the *.txt association, because that is set to jEdit on my machine and = it still uses Notepad. So I can only assume it calls Notepad by name. You should be able to do that with jedit.exe, just copy it into the = windows directory and rename it. I tried it, and it seems to work. I had to replace the one in = WINNT/System32 rather than the one in WINNT (which also existed.) -----Original Message----- From: Lasse Lindg=E5rd [mailto:la...@ja...] Sent: Friday, March 15, 2002 9:31 AM To: jed...@li... Subject: [ jEdit-users ] jEdit as notepad replacement Is there a clever way of replacing notepad with jEdit ? M$ Internet explorer seems to be hardcoded to call notepad.exe when I = do a "view source". It is most unproductive as there are no linenumbers and zero syntax highlighting. Before I saw the light I used Ultraedit. It had a small file that you = could simple replace notepad.exe with. Is there a similar approach for jEdit ? Maybe it would be possible to produce a version of the "launcher.exe" program called notepad.exe that could be copied into with the windows directories to replace notepad.exe. And provide a guide similar to the = one at the ultraedit site.
