hi, and what if the read-only buffer would just behave as an "untitled" new one that contains already some content. you could edit it and when you hit paste, the "save as" dialog box would appear thus the changes won't get lost and the read-only rights won't be violated. it wouldn't be possible to save to the read-only file unless the user would permit that explicitly - though that (under unix) might nvolve a password authentication.
