For what it's worth, I tried installing 3.2pre9 and still had the action 
slowdown I mentioned.  I had to roll back to pre4 for things to work.  So, 
at least for me, the problems arose between pre4 and pre5.  So if pre9 
doesn't help you maybe try pre4.
