On my Dell Inspiron 3500 running Windows 98, using an external mouse (as opposed to the touch
pad), trying to select text with the mouse misbehaves.

For example, I position the cursor, then depress the left mouse button and begin dragging the
mouse. The cursor moves as expected, but jedit acts like I keep releasing and redepressing the
key. The initial selection point moves, almost at random.

Using the touch pad, jedit seems to behave normally (something I just discovered), so I
can live with it, but I thought someone might want to try and look into this.

The laptop has a Synaptics TouchPad, version 5.0.17.

This must be a Java or Windows bug. jEdit just listens for
mouse events, doing no device-specific processing.

Are you using 3d cursors? This sometimes causes problems
like this with Java. I've used a USB mouse with my laptop
with no problems at all, once I stopped using 3d cursors.
