As soon as I migrated to Ubuntu 26.04.1 LTS from 24.04, jEdit 5.5 showed the following behavior. Upgrading jEdit to 5.7.0 didn't help.
In this report, I'm starting jEdit from the desktop icon, in other words, not from bash.
Problem -1: When jedit.desktop (/usr/share/applications) has the following default:
Exec=jedit %U
, clicking jEdit Icon pops up a new instance of jEdit window.
This problem can be mitigated by changing the line as follows:
Exec=jedit -reuseview %U
Problem -2: When jedit.desktop has the following default:
StartupNotify=true
, everytime starting jEdit, the busy mouse cursor, spinning circle animation, keeps showing about 15 seconds even after jEdit occurrence is showing on top of desktop and working correctly. I can start editing normally under the annoying cursor.
This problem can be mitigated by changing the line as follows:
StartupNotify=false
One more thing.
When I ran jEdit by clicking jEdit icon, the same fancy icon used to be shown in the icon dock.
But now, the gray gear icon is shown in the icon dock.
The icon dock problem is gone when I modified /usr/share/applications/jedit.desktop as follows:
Old: StartupWMClass=jedit
New: StartupWMClass=org-gjt-sp-jedit-jEdit
