I'm using jEdit 4.3pre16 on Ubuntu 8.10 (with Java (sun) 1.6.0_10).
Sometimes when the main window losts its focus, then after comming back to it, the keyboard is ignored (the mouse still works).
The only thing to do, is to switch to another window then to switch back to the main window again; if it does not work then I have to restart jEdit.
To reproduce this bug:
Example 1:
- click on the document properties
- using tab/arrows/enter keys (not the mouse) change some properties and press enter to validate the changes
- the keyboard should not respond
Example 2:
- change the current window using alt-tab some times
By the way, most of the time, I'm using Compiz but this bug is not related to it (it occurs on fluxbox too ;) ).
I can confirm this behaviour. However I can add that not *all* keyboard events are ignored... I haven o cursor, but I can navigate the code with the arrow keys.
I'm running on Mac OS X but have seens this behaviour on linux (ubuntu) as well. It's been around for some while, so I'd love to see it fixed.
Regards
Seph
I have seen this behavior too - where arrow keys work, but printable keys seem to be intercepted by another dockable(?) or Component rather than the Text Area itself. When I change focus.
Another thing I noticed sometimes is that when I have 2 views, I do something like save or close a buffer, and suddenly, the hidden (non focused) view is getting my keyboard events when my window manager thinks that the other one has focus. I sometimes have to toggle between views and hit "ctrl-L" before I can figure out which component has focus.
But I have no clue how to reproduce it ... Usually it happens once, I get focus again, and it's fine for a while.
This bug is happening on my Ubuntu when the option "Select windows when the mouse moves over them" is active.
Deactivating the option makes the bug disappear. But it is strange as on my gentoo, it is active and there is no bug. Even more strange, is that's happening also in fluxbox on the ubuntu.
If this old bug is active only when some specific window manager options are active, we can close it. And I don't know how to reproduce, because I can't find "document properties". If anyone is able to reproduce it with standard window manager behaviour, please reopen.
